Posted on behalf of Jabawocky:

Gone West.

It is with much regret I advise that Walter Atkinson of APS, Yoda, master of piston engine management has departed this earth, July 21, 2020.

Remembered for his passion for aviation, in particular aviation engine management education.

Wally.........RIP.

Never met the man but I think of him every time I brief a student on the use of throttle and mixture in a piston engine. So glad you were here Walter, thank you for making it so clear and understandable.

Lucky enough to meet him and get to chat. Lovely fella. He certainly changed the way I operate.

Had the honour of meeting Walter (and John Deakin). But for their (and George Braly’s) efforts, many more pilots would be continuing to operate piston engines in accordance with folklore rather than science and data.

Vale Walter Atkinson.

So very saddened to hear this.

Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
