Private, Training And Recreational Flying Banned?

Victoria will be on level 4 lockdown shortly, trust me on this. What then happens to Private, training and recreational flying? I’m assuming I will then have an uninterrupted six months to finish the paint job.

Was told today by an instructor who is about to become jobless that CASA have directed all Flying Schools to close tomorrow. Anybody else heard this one?

No. I also cant see how CASA could direct such an order. As COVID-19 has no risk to the safety of aviation, where does their ability to command such an order sit in their powers.

it doesn’t...but emergency management powers vested in police probably do.

Alpha Whiskey Bravo 27th Mar 2020 08:28

Yeah CASA have no authority to close down a flying school due to a virus. Fake News!

AWB

Got an email from Central Coast Aero Club, only PVT hire and maintenance are being conducted at the moment, no Dual, joyflights or pax-carrying CHTR.

Oh well if Sunfish says trust me, then it MUST be true!

You’ve skipped mains and gone straight to dessert again... stage 3 comes next.

Please don't try and suggest that you are in the same boat as many in the aviation industry. You have made it very clear time and time again that you have made a very good living as a consultant and the reality is that if you want to spend an uninterrupted six months painting then there is nothing stopping you. At this time of stand-downs and layoffs your limited aviation experience and pathetic self promotion are as welcome as a CASA FOI at an aero club get together.

I fly a Jab...........trust me...... I will continue to fly..........stuff the regulators.......

Clare Prop 27th Mar 2020 11:24

There have been no orders at Federal or State level to close flying schools.
The new travel restrictions in WA will curtail cross country training.
Our lovely landlords made sure they got the rent invoices out nice and early. As this sort of thing is being dealt with at State level and the airports are on Commonwealth land any business stimulus money will end up in their pockets.

Here, here! :D

Heaven forbid you might need to cancel your private yacht tour of Croatia.

Not wanting to be rude, but where are you (and all of us) all going to fly to? To some place a few hundred miles away, refuel there and home again?

Will you say “stuff the cops” too??

Breach COVID restrictions at your own risk peeps, fines of up to $50,000 in some jurisdictions and those laws are actively being enforced.

Sunfish 27th Mar 2020 12:54

Croatia is postponed to next year. Squawk, level3 is about to be bypassed from my understanding,. I now have 6 months painting time.

Lookleftreveals himself as an envious know nothing who doesn't understand that a European holiday is not expensive if one:
’’
‘ (a) has friends/relatives who live there and like to reciprocate for their visits here,

b) uses airBnB,

c) travels by train, car and ferry instead of by domestic European air,

d) books early and eschews Qantas.

e) stays in niche locations.

f) Understands local customs.

g) Is prepared to share.

h) understands that there are two prices for everything; the tourist price and the local.’

...In fact it’s cheaper that much of Australia, although I’m concerned about Coronavirus casualties.

Dora-9 27th Mar 2020 19:20

Gents (and ladies) - Although the school closure rumour has been floating around for a few days now, I wouldn't have posted this except that I have a lot of respect for, and faith in, the instructor who told me this. He doesn't spout rubbish.

Dora-9 27th Mar 2020 19:29

Sunfish - if you didn't want to attract Lookleft's criticisms (but maybe you did?) perhaps you should have a good hard look at yourself. Given the rather serious situation, specifically here as many have or are about to lose their jobs, who gives a flying f**k about your interrupted exotic holiday plans? Including letting us all know that you're well healed enough to go Business Class, so much better off than the peasants? I bet you got top marks in the Narcissism 1.01 Class.

Okihara 27th Mar 2020 20:36

This is it. The final nail in the coffin of many small operators I'm afraid. Surprisingly the Aspeq website will still take bookings for CASA examinations. I don't know if that'll be allowed to go through but distance learning might be one way for students to take advantage of the downtime to complete the curriculum. And for some instructors to provide support to them during that time.

Sunfish 27th Mar 2020 21:05

I simply asked what was happening to private flight.

... and training, and recreational flying.

Mach E Avelli 27th Mar 2020 21:34

Mel beat me to it. Most of us here do not give a rat’s ar$e about the short term future of private flying.
However those who are part way through training would have a real concern about training schools shutting down. Especially if they have paid money up front.
Though completion of training won’t help get a flying job any time in the near future.

Sunny can take heart that prices in Croatia for charter yachts will go down a little when travel restrictions are lifted. Croatia was getting too expensive for the average yachtie, so this correction will be welcome.
But Sunny’s business class travel costs could go up as fewer airlines remaining will dictate terms. The shock, the horror...no more $3000 J class tickets to Europe - more like $8000 for the privilege of a big seat and free booze.
