It is not about getting going again in six months time.

It is about maintaining essential services NOW.

We still need medivac, freight of critical supplies, law enforcement for the duration.

And of course food production. Any disruption to that and the supermarket shelves stay empty.

Sprocket is on the money.
And as for CAsA paperwork...if you flew this week and yr AFR is due next week, and thats not happening...are you likely to have forgotten how to do it ? ...so you musnt.
Just let people use their skills and commonsense and get on with it. eg EMS , freight etc..
The world will not fall off its aviation axis because of the lack of a date stamp on a piece of paper.
And isnt this a "wartime" type crisis after all ?

So, The country is in lockdown and all of the international borders have been closed as of the day today but flight radar still shows aircraft coming and going internationally ?

We are either in lockdown or not in lockdown, someone needs to make their mind up because ScoMo was saying on the TV this morning that there are no international movements about after lunchtime today, we are now at 3:21 PM and planes are coming and going at their leisure from all sorts of destinations

Maybe all those flights in and out are to park them in their respective boneyards!

If the comment about GS from CASA not extending the 2 year window is true (and I wouldn’t put it past him if he has the final say) , then I think a return of draconian punishments along with the draconian laws being introduced would be the only suitable way foreword.

Its true, for now. There is a chat about it on Facebook group Pilots Lounge Australia. With screenshots of correspondence.

The attitude will surely change, but why not just reduce the stress immediately (in an already very stressful situation) and put peoples minds at ease.

Proposed changes to pilot and engineer exams during COVID-19

Last week CASA announced a range of exemptions being put in place to help the Australian aviation industry during the current changing and unprecedented environment.

This week we also saw the escalation of social distancing as the government puts in place further measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

These decisions have resulted in some of you experiencing difficulties with booking and sitting pilot and aircraft maintenance engineering exams.

We recognise this will have impacts on statutory time periods for the completion of exams.

As a result, we are working to put in place measures to provide relief to candidates who are part-way through an examination program, including Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL), Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) and Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) examinations.

This is expected to include a six month extension of the statutory time period for CPL and ATPL in which you can complete your exams, and a 12 month extension to AME examinations (including Schedule Of Experience pathways).

It is important that we all adhere to social distancing measures and do our part and the exemption we will put in place will ensure candidates are not disadvantaged in the current environment.

Regards,

Shane Carmody
Chief Executive Officer and Director of Aviation Safety
