MAF International C208 damaged at MIYANMIN PNG
 

Mission Aviation Fellowship Cessna C208 Caravan was damaged upon landing at AYIY - Miyanmin in the East Sepik during a training exercise last Friday 14th February. Two crew members on baord

Right hand wing apparently hit the ground and the propeller has been damaged which means engine damage as well.
NOTAM advising airstrip has obstruction at one end.

If engine and prop, wing and or wing tip damaged, perhaps dismantle aircraft and transport back to Mt. Hagen in Moro based Columbia H47 Chinook, or sling under Hevilift Mil8.
Prevents further damage to vandalism.

PNG AIC has issues preliminary statement.

Hagen Airport - I recall many years ago the RAAF agreed to lift a bingled Islander out of one of the highlands strips near Telefomin as a sling load under a Chinook and return to Goroka for repair.

All went well until the Islander turned in the slings and the wings went near vertical............

On another occasion a new set of Islander wings were freighted by air from the UK to Australia then air freighted to Port Morbid on the QF B747 Combi scheduled service. From Port Morbid the wings were slung under a helicopter for delivery to one of the strips in the Garaina area of Morobe. All went well until the sling loaded wing started "flying" and oscillating, when the helicopter pilot cut them loose. They were visible nesting in the tree tops for months.

If the Caravan has minor wing damage and a PT6A change, maybe better to repair on site and fly out? :}

I would agree on-site repairs is the way to go. Borrow an engine and prop from another machine, temporary wing repairs if no serious ripples etc.

A few weeks ago a Mil 8 helicopter lifted Air Sanga's PAC 750 out of a jungle airstrip back to Port Moresby.

NOTAM indicates aircraft still at Miyanmin. Must have suffered extensive damage.

Hope the crew are ok.

PNG AIC interim report released,
Cessna C208 Caravan P2-MAI with 11 POB was severely damaged upon landing at Miyanmin airstrip.
The aircraft was factory new and had only been in service a few months.
The NOTAM advising the airstrip was obstructed at one end was cancelled yesterday 13th March
Not sure if the aircraft was repaired on-site, flown out, lifted out via helicopter, or dismantled and abandoned

Well done! good for the history books!
Feb was a tough month for MAF, they sold their beloved Twin Otter P2-MFT to Switzerland?, not sure of final destination. MAF bosses flying the Otter, unusual to do so when its sold as is where is; alas I was in Singapore and I saw the Otter at Seletar at an engineering shop. Apparently out of the Bay of Bengal, there was a problem which required a turn back. Landed in Indonesia, but no repair facilities. So back track even further to Singapore for engineering. A week lost but no doubt a good experience!.

Two of P2 registered Twin Otters and a squadron of P2 registered GA8 Airvan's at Mareeba. Easily fill the void.

MAF Caravan P2-MAI returned to the air on 16th Feb 2021; one year under going repairs after landing accident.
