Jet overrun at YMMB.

3.55 pm. Citation or similar noted bogged in the grass off the north end of Runway 35 Right at MB. What is the story?

Only a short distance from the stop-em all steel fence. A bit different from the arrester hook mesh fence that was there before.

Lots of smoke at MB.

Can’t answer that sorry, however what is that large pile of dirt thing next to the road on the northern end?

There aren’t many places left there to over-run there these days!

I note the road now goes through from centre Dandenong to lower Dandenong, through past PHS and Yungurs.

VH-FCS Citation with williams engines. Apparently landed very, very, very long in smoke haze and did a bit of damage. Crane may be required.
pile of dirt at Centre Dandenong Rd is “apparently” PFAS contaminated that MAC knew nothing about because Airservices and/or FAC never told them or didn’t say ( or in fairness didn’t know) when they bought the lease as the firies had long since departed. Expensive exercise.

Does that one belong to Lindsay?

No. Same surname. Different business.

A couple of mentions of smoke.
What does smoke have to do with it? Did they conduct an Instrument Approach? Did they have the required visibility for landing?

Apparently. landed fast and long and overshot 35R after bursting both main tyres due braking. Aircraft came to a stop approx 50 metres or so after the runway, according to a friend who saw it first hand

As one might expect, there are some pretty significant skid marks down the last third of runway 35R.. would have been pretty scary.

Might have been skid marks in the undies of all on board too! :)

I was in the queue waiting for an approach when the Citation did his approach. The ATIS at the time was quoting about 3000m viz (I think). I asked the controller if aircraft were getting in, he said yes. Approach were very busy at the time. The old story, you could see vertically down through the smoke but forward viz was kaput.

I was headed out to Mallacoota at the time, had to head back to Moorabbin, the smoke build up happened very quickly, as soon as the wind swung around to a northerly, game over.

I was watching Flightradar24 on NY day, after the last round of fires down south. Was interesting to watch multiple Rex Saab’s, an RFDS King Air, and a GAM Shrike all go missed at Merimbula and all subsequently divert within the space of 15-20 mins, and in the midst of this, an unnamed Victorian operator get their Chieftain in with a vis reported as 1500m. And unsuspecting people pay these cowboys to move their people around.

Checking the camera onsite would have given you an idea of how quickly the visibility was changing.

Wasn’t me, I was 500k north of there NYE.

Some pilots make their own luck and it always clears up ahead of them, or closes in behind them for that matter :-)
