Good advice. Select your options carefully..

Look at the bright side, there'll be one less of em to choose from shortly.

Mirrors much of my training experience. They get away with it because we don’t (as students) yet understand the value proposition.

Id say as always it comes down to the individual doing the teaching. In my dirty past I worked at renowned rubbish flights schools with some truly excellent instructors and schools with far better public reputations with some of the worst, most impractical, impatient pr1cks. The problem with the sausage factory is you probably won’t get a choice of instructor as the student and if you complain the company will close ranks and blame the student.

I made the call way back when to go with a small regional operator with a mixed business (charter/training) and it was awesome because the people delivering the training owned the business and invested in my progress. I was too young flying wise to really know whether what I received was good Training, but I could feel they cared and wanted to be in the plane while I fumbled around for a while. I reckon that’s half the battle. Moving on in my career when I’ve had training captains that display the same patience and respect then it’s amazing how well me and others progress while those with impatient grumpy bastards seem to take ages to get through.

still - often amazed how little research many people actually do - a certain booming operator in MB is a classic example..
