Tuncurry-Foster aerodrome

The current aerodrome at Tuncurry is on Wallis Island but I recall landing at an airstrip or aerodrome on the north side of the river in the 1970s.
What happened to that strip and when did it get turned into real estate.
From memory it was ran parallel to the beach and a charter firm was based there doing joy rides. Was the strip sealed or just graded?

Yes, landed there a few times. I recall it was closed sometime in the late '80's (but the memory may not be quite correct?). Unlike some other similar strips it no longer shows on Google maps anymore.
It was certainly better than having to land on the island and catch a boat! Some locals had their a/c based there, including, I recall the late Paul Carey the publican at the Hotel.(the Bellevue Hotel, I recall)

Digging into the memory ... As I recall, the advent of the licenced strip on Wallis resulted in the demise of the old Tuncurry strip. Long time since I have holidayed up at Forster.
