A light aircraft has crash landed on the outskirts of a major Riverland town, bringing down power lines which has caused outages in the area.

Emergency services were called to David St, Renmark North, at 6.15pm following reports a twin-seater light plane had plunged to the ground near a local farm.

The single occupant pilot has suffered “serious injuries”, an SA Ambulance spokeswoman said.

Specialist MedStar emergency paramedics attended the scene, which is located 5km north of Renmark and on the verge of the road.

The middle aged male pilot has been flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He is in a serious but stable condition.

Authorities said there had been “significant damage to the plane” which also brought down a number of power lines.

The crash also caused a significant fuel leak.

At least three metropolitan fire crews were working with local Country Fire Service as well as State Emergency Service personnel.

DF - Reports are that it is a twin Cessna 441, not exactly a "light aircraft". It is reportedly a "real mess", and the pilot is one lucky lad to survive.

Surely not another C441? Maybe they're getting mixed up with the Rossair one?

No, there's no mistake or confusion with the Rossair crash. The information is from a reliable source, an experienced pilot, that it is a Cessna 441.
The media are notorious for being wildly inaccurate with their aviation-related information - and virtually no media people are working on a Saturday night.
"Adelaide Now" initially reported it as an "ultralight crash". God give us strength, they wouldn't know an aircraft from a parachute.
There's confusion with the SAPOL reporting that RA-Aus will be investigating, but my pilot source generally knows what he's talking about.

Yes, my apologies, he's admitted he stuffed up badly, and mixed up the Rossair crash with this one. SAPOL are obviously correct, they have attended the scene, and they know what the aircraft is - an RA-Aus machine.

Ha - I knew it! Experienced pilot? Hmmmm...

ABC has an eye witness saying he was heading home and flew low overhead to wave goodbye to the people on the ground at the movie set.
