Garmin Pilot Incapacitation Autoland System
Could this be as important as ballistic recovery shutes? |
Hope the been counters at the Airlines don't hear about this!-:) :) |
"aligns the aircraft with the centerline of the runway"
Really? |
I could do with one of those every day!
|
I don't know much about it, nor do I want to, but I have zero faith in the ability of what is essentially a fish-finder to successfully complete a landing... looks like a classic design for a random outcome....
|
And the cost to buy is ? And the EO and to install in Oz will be ? Better buy a Lottery ticket!!
In the last 30 years, how many crashes and fatalities from pilot incapacitation. ? Oops ...ATSB might find that certain pilots are 7 times more likely to pass out, and CAsA will mandate more maintenance of the aircraft. Problem solved. Stay healthy y'all. |

I think Garmin needs a little bit more credit, fantastic products. The first time I flew G1000 with the infra red looky forward thingy....... Wow, technology is amazing. Credit where credit is due (would I trust it???)..... |

I want one! I'll be happy to sit in the back, crack a cold one, and see how it goes next time I'm solo in one!
|
I think it's genius.
Expensive? Sure. If you're buying a Vision Jet I doubt you care. |
AWB... CAsA Corporate Spokesperson, ie chief BS spinner P Gibson would state that to be in the back of yr aircraft during a solo flight with no-one at the controls and on auto pilot is highly dangerous.
Just another one of his 'made up' stories And if with this gadget the solo pilot suddenly passes out...who's to press the button ??? |

I don't see this being as useful as the ballistic recovery chute (pretty sure that pilot incapacitation happens much less frequently than crashes due to fuel exhaustion, engine failure, etc) - but still a nice thing to have in an emergency. Edit - I guess that this would also be a fantastic thing for "VFR pilot flies into cloud and gets disoriented". Now they can just hit the Autoland button and Garmin will figure out how to get down safely. Unfortunately "VFR pilots" and "planes with Garmin Autoland" probably don't overlap very much. |

That video of GARMIN Autoland made me cry thinking how that could save my family!
Yes, but can it do a "corn field" landing. |
