If resurfacing is what they are talking about, getting it right can deliver noticable improvements in surface drainage. Badly worded press release but a far safer runway to land on in the wet.

They need to raise the runways in Melbourne for when there's a decent northerly to help get rid of some of the turbulence. Nice one, Minister. Do they ever read what they put out in Press releases???

Re - WA Minister for Regional Development Alannah MacTiernan said the Western Australian Government's $1.75 million investment in the new airstrip would help to drive economic opportunity in the region.
“As the gateway to Western Australia, it is important that the Norsemen community, visitors and road users are provided with increased accessibility to emergency services in all-weather conditions.

Norseman Ad. - Formerly built on the 'basin' of the salt lake adjacent to Norseman townsite, Lake Cowan. Used to be 'unuseable' with heavy rains, and a bit 'oooppss' with light rains.
Alannah has it right with the 'all-weather' description...….Now...…

I have not seen the improvements, but GE appears to show perhaps a gravel raised base over the salt and tarmac on top...?
At least the tyres / brakes will remain dry, and the underwings 'salt free'.

Sadly, also the scene of one of WA's worst aircraft crashes involving a BE-58 Baron, last light for the take-off, some ' footy' team members arriving late for the departure, and an 'unauthorised' control lock...…
(Nothing to do with the ad surface at the time, which was salt.)

You're right LS, Wot turbulence has to do wif it....I dunno eiver…..

Geez, I hope AirServices spends some of our money to re-draw the approach plates and adjust the decision heights, to allow for the higher runway.
