Crash at Palmwoods on Qld Sunshine Coast

ABC Radio news reporting a light aircraft crash this morning at Palmwoods on the Queensland Sunshine Coast.

Nothing online yet available apart from this report on the Sunshine Coast Daily that's behind a paywall.

I think they call that 'A backyard Operator'. Very lucky escape.

Glad he walked away from it! But feel like I should ask... what's the "Over the fence speed" meant to be? :D

ATC playback

Someone's put the tower frequency comms with the pilot up onto Youtube. Check the notes to see a log of transmission times.

A very scary couple of minutes. Felt like it was 20-30 sec not 2min 20 between mayday and hitting the trees.

Well done that man

I used to teach students to switch the radio off if ATC kept hounding them during an emergency. You're dealing with an emergency, fly the aeroplane. The controller is just doing what is required of him, but a guy on the other end of the radio can't help you.

Good point WizofOz but I was probably looking for some advice or comfort. The first and hopefully the last time in this sort of situation. Like I said it all happens very quickly when only 500-700 feet off the ground.
