Visual Pilots guide Melbourne/Moorabbin

Hey Everyone,

Going to get back into flying over the next few weeks, however it seems like the last VPG for Moorabbin/Melbourne Basin is 2010. Have jumped onto that ontrak thing CASA has on their website however can't seem to find anything relating to Moorabbin. I would like to freshen up with produces before I start again. Does anyone have any other sources which could aid me in a similar way. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Definitely would not rely on it 100%, however it would help with a few things. I'm assuming the 2010 is the last update, what I wanted to know is if there is another PDF or reference similar which would outline the procedures for Moorabbin as the 2010 version is way to old to rely on.

Kaz, as SU-37 stated there is nought about Morrabbin there. I guess that they’re still trying to work out how to get from Moorabbin to Williamstown etc.

Actually this changed a few months ago. Moorabbin used to be on the CASA OnTrack tool but it was removed for some reason and hasn't been restored since.

Airservices however published four very informative pages on YMMB (http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/...-Moorabbin.pdf). Rest assured though that the "Moorabbin CCT" luckily hasn't changed much since 2010. As a reminder, it's even featured on page 3, and I seriously can't resist to share it here with you all:

This is weird.

last night I watched OnTrack videos of aircraft entering Moorabbin from the various VFR reporting points and listened to advice regarding the PJ area at Brighton etc.i was looking at Launceston first and it just rolled on to Moorabbin info.

BUT the video is also still available on YouTube by googling “youtube moorabbin ontrack”

Funnily enough I was looking at the same thing the other day.

i was wondering where “CARR, BAW, BTO, ACE, SHOAL or GMH” might be, being the arrival points for VFR aircraft?

There’s no clue in DAPS, ERSA, or even a map to provide a clue. Nor is there anything on the website.

Am I missing something, or in the absence of a VFG, are newby’s arriving at YMMB meant to guess?

Truly curious as I ordinarily fly IFR but cancel and arrive VFR at a GAAP (now I’m showing some of my age). Have always used YMEN but now YMMB would be closer but I have no clue how to ‘arrive’ except to barrel in on an IFR plan

All on the Moorabbin Inset VTC. :=

Oops! I knew I was missing something!
ill be fine once the drugs kick in:ugh:

The current VTC and inset is incorrect (although my favourite EFB has altered the chart), need to wait until May per CASA reverses Port Phillip Bay Coastal Route (again) - Australian Flying

That “youtube moorabbin ontrack” is also incorrect for the same reason.

“Which one are you? Waggle your wings” - YMMB ATC to a tongue tied Oxford C172 student in the circuit.

I remember flying into YMMB in a Yak a few years ago. I reported at the inbound point and received clearance. Then a bit later the tower advised me that they can’t see my transponder. “That’s because there isn’t one fitted” I replied. They were so used to every aircraft having one even though it is not required in Class D for VFR. Look out the tower window guys!

I was concerned when Moorabbin disappeared from CASA OnTrack also.
Maybe it was a bit out of date.
When it comes back, I hope they can fix this issue while they are at it.

The YouTube video is still available.
This link will take you straight to the point where they are mentioning "Moorabbin Oval" as an intermediate reporting point approaching Moorabbin.
Move to about 3:30
I understand Moorabbin Oval to be just off South Road in Moorabbin. (The home of the Saints)
However, the helicopter shot shows this:

YouTube shot

I wracked my brain trying to work out where this actually was. I think I found it using Google Earth.

I reckon the chopper is above Weatherall Road, Cheltenham flying directly East towards the center of Moorabbin Airport.
The oval shown is Cheltenham Reserve and the square field is Shipston Reserve (ignore the typo on the map)
Note also, the City of Kingston office landmark on Nepean Highway.
And the OfficeWorks, Bunnings center directly between the chopper the Moorabbin.

You might notice that this means that the video has been flipped. You will NEVER see that view when flying into Moorabbin.

That's totally true. And very disconcerting, whether familiar or not with MB.

I find it weird that CARR had no mention in the video.
