What a mess.

Judging from the photos it looks to be the replica Yak-3, moved to Latrobe valley about a year ago from Tyabb. Compare the markings from the photo to the you tube video: (Will not let me link)

RAAus? looks like the genuine thing in the pics.

The photo #4 is the Yak 9 formerly owned by Jim Wickham who sold it last February after a rebuild following a nose over. Relocated to Gippsland. |
Was the Yak one of the new builds that were available from Russia?

Certianly not much of it left. |
An Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) statement said the light plane was a single-engine Yakovlev Yak-9UM warbird aircraft.

Very sad but nothing to do with RAAus this aircraft comes under AWAL.

Without knowing him personally, the companies owning the two aircraft appear to be linked. |

That was the 310 he took me for a ride in. He purchased it in the US and flew it across the pacific with David Squirrell in the late 80's or early 90's.
Sad to hear he's gone. Was a nice dude. |

I gather that there are credible witnesses to the whole event. It will be interesting to see how AWAL handle their end of the processes. Tootle pip!! |
