PNG's Airstrips and Other Stuff

At long last, I've finally completed all the modifications that needed to be made on my FotoTime site. There was much more work involved than I believed possible, though you won't see much of a difference when viewing the various albums. I DID somehow managed to lose 4 photos from one of the contributed galleries, but will fix that in due course.

The one thing that HAS happened is that some of the albums are no longer at the originally advised URLs. Those with new URLs are identified in the list below. So, if you have them bookmarked, now might be a good time to update your links.

PNG GPS NPA Validation Checks NEW URL FOR THIS ALBUM

I understand that folks like Pinky and Plugga will be sending me additional photos for their albums - after 20 August, 2002, please fellas!

I doubt that Chuck's album will get any bigger because he got his own space on FotoTime recently. I'm sure we all look forward to seeing more photos from him in the near future. And, Chuck, if you plan to put the photos in your album on your own site, just let me know and I'll delete them from my site.

Soon as I have the additional photos, I'll see if there's any that can be used to restart the "GUESS THE GOAT-TRACK COMPETITION". Meantime, this thread is also open for any discussion related to aviation in PNG - and anything else related to the country, so long as it don't get tooooo politically sensitive... :D

Yiiiippeeeee I can now go blaze some new trails - and perhaps even "reblaze" some older ones in the UK! ;)

Herc Jerk 28th Jul 2002 20:04

And I know all you old spooks from up there are reading this, any one have any memorys of and old three ten P2-PVT?.
was operated by a mob called pivotal aviation....any old yarns about her will do.:)
Or even email the yarns to me at [email protected] as after reading the log books of my old gal, she was up there a while.

Steve76 31st Jul 2002 16:26

Hey that shot of Chimbu brought back some memories...
I lived there in 77. The ol man drove a 206 for Talair and I rode my bike up and down the strip since our backyard was the airfield.
Got tied to a rope to climb down the slope at the end and retrieve the cones after a blow one night.
Got Malaria there too....:(
What a great place allround...

OzExpat 31st Jul 2002 21:16

Funny you should mention P2-PVT Wiz - all my C310 hours (not a lot) are on THAT miserable excuse for an aeroplane! :D When I knew it, it was operated by Circus Air, aka Central Air Services - the original company by that name, not to be confused with the current company with the same name.

I ranged far and wide with it, quite early in my career and was very happy to exchange it for an "F" Model Aztruck with Robertson STOL conversion! Thin bloodey wings in the tropics, trying to generate life for take-off on runways used easily by F28s! I believe that a former CAS Chief Pilot took the self same C310 into a strip named Fane - there's any number of photos of that place within all those URLs.

Anyway Wiz, yes thanks - having a great time - glad yer not here! ;)

Chimbu chuckles 5th Aug 2002 12:39

gaunty 5th Aug 2002 15:29

And Michael Somare is back.

What's the reading on this guys.

Is it just his turn at the trough again??

Chimbu chuckles 5th Aug 2002 23:50

Say it really fast Clarry.

Just having a break at the moment....many things happening.

From what I heard the last PNG PM was a good man...can't have that now, can we!!

Chuck.

Capt Vegemite 5th Aug 2002 23:52

Gaunty I seriously doubt there is much of a trough left.

How about you rustle up some them WA wheeler dealers(Bondy) and we put in an offer for the joint?

gaunty 6th Aug 2002 02:10

Couple of mates and I already tried that, we paid the money, got the receipt then they changed the Govt.:D

The "broker" denied ever having seen us, that the new RR was a gift from a grateful client and then took a job as "chief adviser" to the new Govt.?

I thought we in West Dunnunda knew how to panhandle but we shoulda listened to Bondy and his mates even they were too smart to take em on.

Good luck with the new Govt and like Chuckles said, the last man was a goodun and so I believe was the new one, when he was a boy.

There is something in the food they serve in Parliamentary dining rooms that brings on all sort of delusions.

OzExpat 6th Aug 2002 15:57

Sorry I haven't been around for a while guys... been busy here in the UK...:D Anyway..

Wiz ... I destroyed two cameras tryin to take photos of that butt-ugly antique b@stard of a thing... sorry...;)

Wotz goin on Chuck ? How come yer not in Singas? Didja get a better offer - and, if so, does she have a sister? :D

Having just now read that PNG's new PM is Sir Michael ... oh well, this makes the second (or is it the third...? ) time that he's been PM while I've been there... :(

Capt Vegemite 7th Aug 2002 23:35
