You Know The Airstrip Is Wet When........

......when the owners Range Rover is bogged up to the axles in the middle.

I wish we could send the rain and snow we have had so far this week to our brethren further North. If it keeps up though, we should have masses of hay to send to NSW by Christmas.

Maybe if the runway was bitumen that might make more of a story.

...you land and think you have the park brake on

holdingagain 21st Aug 2018 10:26

When you get there, if the car meeting you is 90 degrees to the runway, don’t land, divert to “x” as the strip is too wet.
Arrived, car parked parallel to strip = strip dry. On downwind I can see surface water reflections so divert to x.
Outcome the car was bogged. Let’s hope some droughties cars get bogged this weekend.

I think I have an Arctic winter Canadian version of that.
You know you don't really need to check your destination's runway snow covering condition when:
There is only one snow plower in town and....You are the one carry its needed part in a Twin Otter to repair it.

A/ it takes 30in/hg to taxi out
B/ the props are tinged green from the landing.
C/ the guy who really really really wants his mail won’t give a definitive answer(dry) as to the state of his strip.
D/ the windsock has blown off the pole and is Lying in a puddle near the strip.
E/ the engines are flooded..... and not by Avgas.

I once landed on a jungle helipad in Belize and had to wade through two feet of water* to get to the radio room to get a message to the intended destination to say we'd had to divert due to their bad weather.

*we had expected to walk across a football pitch.
