Drink driving, driver history etc
 

Hi,

I am just starting my CPL and I was wondering if anyone knew how much driver history the airlines in Australia require?

A few years ago I was 0.072 BAC, which is over the limit but only got me a fine and not a criminal record - no court, no conviction etc.

It was dumb and I won't be doing it again, but does anyone know if the airlines require driver history reports or do they simply go by Police Checks (in which case my thing would not show up).

I'd hate to go through all this training only to realise that I'm unemployable at the end :(

I don’t know if it would stop you getting in..you actually have to make that confession on your medical declaration (although many don’t and never get caught) and periodic liver function checks result. However the ranks of the profession are littered with those awaiting the returns of their drivers license or with real convictions on their records.
Two points 1/ if you fall on your sword and confess your sins, its not usually the end of your career
2/ this industry and the people in it will drive you to drink

Thanks for your reply. I did tell CASA and I got my class 1 medical. Do you happen to know if airlines have any way of finding out my driver history unless I volunteer the information? (which I wouldn't unless asked directly).

I read that QF require a state Police criminal record check, don't know about traffic record. I've not heard of any other airline requiring either check.

They cannot obtain it without your permission.

What might trip you up is the series of questions that most employers will ask on initial application forms, like "have you ever been disqualified from running a company? Have you even been a defendant or respondent in a criminal trial? Have you ever been the subject of discipline action through your employer? Have you ever...."

If the XPCA offence was committed in Victoria and you received an infringement notice, police can list this on a record of prior convictions.

I suggest honest answers at medical and employment interview with the explanation as given is the right way to deal with it. Worse to be caught out lying in my view especially if it also constitutes perjury.

Don’t think QF can discriminate based upon medical data.
