cardiac stents and class 2 medicals
Hi Guys,
I'm the proud owner of a new heart stent. I'd like to understand the chances of getting my Class 2 medical back. Has anyone been through the process as outlined by CASA? What's been your experience? Cheers FT |
Flying Ted, I seem to remember a former pres of AOPA having stents fitted...he didnt have a heart attack prior... some medical hoops were put in front of him but, from memory, he got his licence back.

There's a list of disqualifyibg conditions on the CASA website from memory. Though the only way to know for sure is to book the medical and give it a go.

Hi Flying Ted
PM sent. Cheers FL |
I think there is a 6 month sit out for a class 1 med, pass the required tests and complete a stress echo and your back. Class 2 I assume much the same.
|
Six months sit out for a stent in a major artery, only six weeks for a stent in any of the other arteries,Stress ECG and a report to CASA from the Cardiologist.
|
Mate retained his ATPL and continued professional flying after having one fitted.
|
I know two senior pilots at my airline who still fly after having stents so I would imagine a class two won’t be a problem.
|
For a class 1 medical it's 6 months on the bench (major artery stent) and then back to work with no hassles. :ok:
