IREX Exam

Has anybody done IREX lately?

I note the doc's listed on CASA website are

CAR 1988
CASR Part 61
CAO 20-95.2
CAAP 234-1(1)
AIP Book
DAPS East and WEST
ERSA
All ERC Low and TAC
AUS PCA
Navigation equipment
A ‘Basic calculator’
Bit of a winge, but leaving aside the CAR, CASR, CAO and CAAP, the balance of the docs cost $400.00

I'm guessing the full suite of docs are required?

You might get some more useful information on one of the training sites, eg Bob Tait's regularly has discussions on this stuff.

You will want all the AIPs, ERSA, DAPs and ERCs but can get by with a subset of the others - you can download the appropriate CAO/CAR/CASR/CAAP sections you need and must bind them in a folder so long as they are just the documents (ie no indexes or pages you add). I think Bob Tait may provide a copy of those pages to students using his material (his books or trial exams - try his web site forum and ask there) but you should be able to hunt them down yourself on the net - make sure they are the official docs though and must be in a folder not just loose pieces of paper.

Alternatively learn the material in those docs really well and rely on your memory but you would be foolish to not have the AIPs, ERSA, TACs and DAPs in the exam (and know your way around them).

You can also talk to your school and see if they will loan you docs for the exam.

You will need the AIPs, DAPs and ERCs anyway (or Jepps equiv) for your training and use later so that is going to be a given cost anyway.
