However your rude assertion "you well knew that" is incorrect. I didn't know that. I wasn't taught that, nor was it ever explained (including the reasoning) to me until now. I don't know if its in the syllabus. If it was, it certainly wasn't brought to my attention, ever.
Sunfish: I apologise. From your extensive posts on this forum I assumed an commensurate level of operational knowledge and experience, but you've indicated in one area your training was not what it should have been. And that sounds like I'm digging an even deeper hole :ouch:

triadic, AeroscatS2A & wishiwasupthere outline well what reports should entail, and if something along those lines is not done as part of basic pilot training, then clearly it should be.
