IR renewal by foreign examiner ?

Hi, does anybody know if CASA allow EASA examiners to conduct IR renewals on oz pilots abroad ?

ivan ellerbai 20th Jan 2018 21:09

I'm sure CASA does, why not contact them?

No chance what’s so ever , we tried to do a type rating renewal , red tape and lots of cash, easier to fly back to Europe to do it

Admittedly I have not tried to gain such approval, but this suggests it is possible https://www.casa.gov.au/files/5141pdf

It is very possible, I have done so myself on a few occasions.

Remember, simulator checks by an approved authority/organisation are all permitted under the Australian regs. All you have to do is ask CASA, state your case. Mind you the paperwork trail will take time, CASA charge heaps, it may even be cheaper to fly home and back again to Europe etc

It is easily done if done at an approved training organisation. They fill in the form when you complete the check and you submit that and a credit card number for the renewal.

But you will likely have to do a verbal “quiz” with an Aussie based Flight Examiner (is that what ATOs are called now?) also.

Last time I did it in Dallas is was simple. Fill out appropriate forms, advise the simulator company (they need to make sure their examiner is approved), they will fill out the post check form, send it off to CLARC, do aural test with an FE back home.

Having just done something similar RR has it pretty correct, there's a CASA form that specifies countries where a renewal can be completed - renewal must be on CASA documentation/paperwork and assumes the outfit doing the check are CASA delegated - locally from memory NZ, Singapore, Dubai, US and about 12 European countries, the aural apparently must be completed by an Oz based examiner.

cheers.
