Emergency locator and Black Box device

EU have mandated that all new cars should have an device that calls emergency services in the event of a serious accident being detected.

The devices are autonomous can withstand 100G and also loop record vehicle data.

A compliant device was launched (?) today in Australia and is receiving considerable exposure in the press.
IMR Sentinel - eCall Compliant Automated Vehicle Crash Alert Device

Whilst we are well aware of existing tracking devices, I hope the introduction of this tech to road users will be a catalyst for wider use of such devices in GA.

and no doubt those cars will eventually be fitted with tracking devices that record exact location and speed every time the vehicle moves. Thus doing away with the need for those inefficient speed cameras.
The safety benefits will be of secondary consideration by the governments when they realise what a cash cow these things have the potential to be.

Speed pales into insignificance though beside the potential for "road pricing" which will surely come in once most cars are electric and the petrol tax take vanishes........ or electricity will become very very expensive indeed!

Correct on road pricing and tracking. More freedoms lost...

Many of the new cars here already record certain parameters to the very end in a crash, including speed, braking force, g-forces and time etc. Most of us just don't realise it yet :-)

Timely example of how the tech could help victims and it has aviation content :)

Teen found alive after 30 hours trapped in car thanks to father's intuition

About a month ago, a night, I drove past a car that had rolled off a rural road near where I live and was hidden from view. The driver had crawled from the wreckage and called emergency services but was too injured to flag anyone down.
I passed emergency services doing a U turn as they tried to locate him.
