Do I need to do MCC?

Just wondering if I need to do MCC course to obtain my ATPL

I am currently holding a CASA CPL, I have 2700 hours in Multi Crew Ops, but they are all done outside Australia.

Do I still need to do MCC course before I do my ATPL flight test?

You'll most likely have to, but not necessary in Oz.
Google CASA exemption EX225/15. It has all you need in it.

Not necessarily.

CASR part 61.275 outlines the exemption for an MCC course prior to an ATPL flight test but you need to hold a Foreign ATPL first.
My advice would be to ensure all of your Australian theory exams are complete first then (assuming you already hold a foreign ATPL) apply for an exemption.

You can do the overseas conversion exams but I can't say if your Australian licence will have a notation saying it was based on a foreign conversion.

My Understanding (and I could be 100% wrong.. I often am)

"successful completion of alternative training, or acquisition of qualifications, or possession of experience, or a combination of these, which CASA considers to be at least equivalent to any of the alternative requirements mentioned in items (1) to (4)."

Therefore I would think that common sense would dictate (again.. its CASA .. so maybe not :ugh:)
That if you hold a Foreign ATPL, with a type rating on a multi crew aircraft and 50 hours in RPT operations that you could apply for the exemption.

Bringing this up again.

I have an Aussie CPL and ATPL subjects and have multi-crew experience as copilot with foreign operators, foreign type rating courses etc. I've done similar courses to the MCC but did not complete a CASA MCC course nor have a MCC certificate, nor have a type rating on my CASA licence.

If an operator in Australia requires a MCC or exemption as a condition of employment, does anyone have any experience with getting the exemption itself? From reading the regs the only things that specifically qualify for an exemption is multi crew/RPT operations with an Australian operator (or EASA). Otherwise there is the "which CASA approves to be at least equivalent to any of the alternative requirements" clause.

Has anyone gotten an exemption using their foreign multi crew experience/type rating? Or is it easier/cheaper in the end just to get the MCC done and dusted

Thanks

An MCC is training for a position with the company. Make the company you work for or that is wanting to employ you pay for it.

Agree. Most airlines these days are trying to support this, however CASA are inconsistent as usual.

If a pilot without multi-crew experience can get through a type rating for a multi-crew type, what’s the problem? The onus is on the examiner doing the skills assessment on the pilot for the type rating to make the decision, not CASA or some third party organisation who is going to charge a heap of $$$$ for a meaningless training outcome just to tick a box on a CASA form.

CASA needs to trust the examiners they have approved and not over complicate things. This is the exact reason why some regional airlines are forced to park up aeroplanes and not service the regional areas due to stupid CASA requirements, absolutely nothing to do with the love word - SAFETY, more like CASA stupidity🤬.
