King Air VH-OWN emergency landing Essendon

Plane makes emergency landing after landing gear malfunction

onehitwonder 1st Oct 2017 09:11

Max Quartermains?

The aircraft that went U/S on the day of the DFO crash?

RatsoreA 1st Oct 2017 10:29

Well done champ! Text book stuff. Nobody injured, plane will more than likely fly again, and calmly and casually exiting the airstairs like you're popping out to grab a coffee.

:ok:

cattletruck 1st Oct 2017 10:36

Well done that pilot. :ok:

Capt Fathom 1st Oct 2017 10:52

If you can afford to charter a Kingair, you can dress however you like! :ouch:

StickWithTheTruth 1st Oct 2017 10:58

I like the way the pax comically exited the aircraft. They were no doubt relieved.

Car RAMROD 1st Oct 2017 10:59

On face value yep, looks like a job well done. Wouldn't mind chatting to the pilot and hearing their story!
Anyone got the ATC recordings?

Anyone know if the gear was down but not locked, or was it stuck up in the well? Can't tell from the video. Just intrigued, nothing more nothing less.

Xray Tango 1st Oct 2017 11:05

The gear wouldn’t lock, tried all the normal stuff, very experienced pilot, and BTW, the Pax were the owner and family !

Pinky the pilot 1st Oct 2017 11:11

Note the exit of the passengers; Whatever happened to the old tradition of 'Women and Children first!':ooh::hmm:

OWN has been for sale for a while so I guess this setback will knock the advertised sale price of US $945,000 around

Capt Fathom 1st Oct 2017 11:45

At least the fireies didn't uneccessarily cover it with foam! :ok:

Lead Balloon 1st Oct 2017 11:47

As they say in the classics: That'll buff out...

Ixixly 1st Oct 2017 12:39

I love how someone took the opportunity to use the emergency exit on the right instead of the wide open door at the back, classic!

Glad all are safe and sound!

Right main was definitely down, as can be seen in the video. Presumably the nosewheel was too.

This reminds me of the complete wheels up landing of VH-URU that happened at YPAD on the 27th of September 2008. It was being flown by a friend of mine.

And he was unfortunate enough to have a huge audience, who had turned up to see the Flying Rats A380 on its proving flight ( which was running late) staging through Adelaide

After the event in URU, said pilot reportedly took all his passengers to his home for a BBQ and beers

True story Marauder (all of it) and he kept the fireys away and DF he did a bloody good job (including a job on the media too lol).

I should have been a little more specific and said left main.

Spectators sure got more than they bargained for that day!

Having done that, he tore a ligament jumping down :ouch:
