CASA FOIs

I'm from kiwi land and keep seeing stuff about CASA FOIs all over the place and cannot for the life of me work out what a FOI is. Any help?

CASA FOI = Flying Operations Inspector.

CASA AWI = Air Worthiness Inspector

CASA DAS = Director of Air Safety

Infallible, supreme, authoritative fonts of all aviation knowledge and wisdom.

:ok:

Including the word "Safety" in the corporate name is blatant false advertising.
In no way could they be seen as an Authority on Safe Civil Aviation.
They are first and foremost the "National Aviation Regulator" nothing more, nothing less.
They keep banging on about compliance with ICAO yet they do not refer to themselves using that definitive ICAO term.

I have a suggestion - lets split "regulatory enforcement' away from 'regulation writing". Police and lawyers enforce the law, public servants and politicians make the law. Over-simplified, I know, but two separate groups.

Only in aviation does a public service body write, oversee, and regulate the law. Let one bunch of wanna be lawyers (or, here's a thought, guys and gals with practical experience in commercial aviation NOT military has-beens or career public servants) write the regs. Then lets have another group to enforce the law, with any charges to be proven in a court of law - just like any other offender.

DeltaRomeo650, if you don't know what a FOI is - Ignorance is bliss.

CAsA FOI...Normally its Freedom of Information. Should you wish to find out what they have done....eg How much spent on the 'Give GA the Finger' edifice at Avalon

But with CAsA, who have turned it into a game and an art form, its NON FOI.
You get pages full of black rectangles where 'information' would be, and they use bullsh*t excuses such as .." not in the public interest", ..or.."should you know this, CAsA would not be able to manage their staff effectively." Yes truly.. !

Or..'legal professional privilege' as if one CAsA persontalking to another CAsA person in the LSD division has any client/lawyer relationship about it. Its a furphy to deny.
Next step is the OAIC/Office of the Information Commissioner and on most occasions, you get something of what you want, giving the lie to CAsA excuses for NON FOI.

Dont know about NON Flying Ops Inspectors but am very aware of NON AWIs who were so stupid they didnt even know what they were looking at or talking about, took no photos or made no notes at the time, so all had to make up a bullsh*t d story later to fit the selected crime. Big Ooops ! ..it was all wrong.

CAsA the regulator (sic -very sick) should NOT even be in the business of 'investigating' and attempting prosecutions...especially when you see Incompetency 101 on full display in so called 'investigations'.

NO FOI jokes.. thats serious stuff. NON AWIs now they were a joke for sure !!

I have been spruking this for years.
It will never happen because it is too simple and simple things do not rate.

Until there is a Judicial Inquiry into the embuggerances of CAsA it will simply never happen.

Good grief..courts have outcomes that CAsA disagree with...thats not on !!

How can they protect their staff if other, more competent and unbiased persons are looking for the truth and not just CYA 101 as is CAsA's MO.
