Secrets of The Long Haul Flight

A worthy and above average doc aired on SBS TV this evening.
(also available on line)
Following A380 flights between Sydney and Heathrow.
A quality doc worth watching, even though at times you may feel it is a corporate movie for Qantas.

Whilst they covered aspects of business and economy class service they omitted first class.

For a doc that went to extraordinary lengths to gain access to engineering,
Flight deck, HQ ect, the omission of first class service is puzzling. (Perhaps I missed it) They could have easily arranged to upgrade a suitable business class passenger in return for agreement to be filmed.

Non the less the program captured the impressive scale of operating an A380. To add context it portrayed the journeys of several passengers.

Aviation historian Dr Peter Lyth;
Even though we have been doing it for half a century there is still a certain magic about long haul which you can't equal with a short haul hop of ninety minutes.
Long haul is what aviation is really about"

I agree with you, was very surprised they left out the First Class component... it would have been a great opportunity for some PR

Recorded it, watched it. Just about all passenger cabin, flight attendants etc. Big P/R job for Qantas. Flight deck stuff was almost "blink and you missed it", but since the crew are subordinate to the computers anyway, and footage of boards full of ICs are pretty boring it was perhaps only to be expected.
Won't bother watching it again. Also fed up with the continuous "yay" campaign for the A380, the oversize Hyundai of the airliner trade. Just another plastic fantastic which will be a nightmare to recycle when life-expired.
