Kulwin, how can you perform a solo navex if you can't refuel? Send an instructor in a taxi to your destination to do it for you?
As I said Sunfish, "once you're solo rated", as in you have been refuelling planes under supervision by the instructor at your normal lessons. But once you do those 3 circuits as part of your first solo, then I understood you could refuel. Please reread my response

Sunfish 31st May 2017 05:01

IFEZ:

Don't forget the MOST important thing when refuelling...

Make sure you are wearing a Hi-Vis vest.

Oh, and safety goggles.

And gloves.

And any other ridiculous, over-the-top safety precaution that can be applied.

. and make sure you don't drop cigarette ash into the tank :D

The kingair program never suffered any refueling issues as there was a dedicated and very competent refueller available at all times.

LexAir 1st Jun 2017 04:47

I hear MAS is seeking CAAC approval to take over the MNG operation.

tanghao 1st Jun 2017 05:04

So,with over 100 students the Chinese Airline will have to cough up some money and keep it going surely? Another operator will step in surely?

IFEZ 1st Jun 2017 06:21

LexAir - how good is your intel on that..? Seems a bit unlikely as that would be a massive expansion from their current operation. Anyway, good luck to them if its true. I'm sure the recently out of work staff at MNG would be desperately hoping for some news like this.

Homesick-Angel 1st Jun 2017 08:48

Pepee. Please Don't stop.

I too have heard the MAS story or something within that ballpark.

Woulda thought a few staff woulda already jumped ship and hopefully the rest get their jobs back. (With a little selective weeding perhaps.)

Good luck - let's hope you're all back to work ASAP.

Prob thinking most of the fleet is back up north, the remainder still on field with the ''other person'',,,,,,,..Dam shame that, both wonderful human beings.

I know a lot of people might disagree, but Avgas is bad ****. Don't get it on your skin.

IFEZ, agree with you to an extent, but do not agree with the Gloves part, I personally wear a glove when handling both Avgas and JetA1, it's not particularly pleasant stuff and I'd hate to think of the cumulative affect it has on our health over decades of handling it!

IFEZ 2nd Jun 2017 03:34

You're probably right Ixixly, I was just venting my spleen a bit. I'm only talking about your every day lighty and avgas of course. I'm just getting sick to death of where this is all heading. I mean what's next..?

'Sorry, you're not allowed to refuel your aircraft until you've attended and passed the CASA approved course in GA Aircraft Refuelling. Please click on the link to contact the authorised training provider. That will be $75 for us and $200 to the course provider. Oh, and it will need to be renewed every 2 years to make sure you haven't forgotten how to do it, and to keep abreast of the raft of changes we've made to the regulations since then'.

Seriously, the point I was trying to make was that as long as you understand the reg's and have been shown the correct refuelling procedure, all that other stuff is just superfluous nonsense. I mean its not rocket science! Once you know what you're doing its no more dangerous than refuelling your car. And there are countless morons out there safely doing that at service stations around the nation every day! :ugh:

Getting back on topic though, it would appear that LexAir might be on to something regarding a 'white knight' at MNG. Nothing definite yet but things are happening behind the scenes apparently. Here's hoping they can get some sort of deal over the line http://cdn.pprune.org/images/smilies/thumbs.gif

Ixixly 2nd Jun 2017 07:28

Haha, fair enough IFEZ, I do agree. I remember just being taken out to somewhere with a Bowser and being shown how to do it, simple as that really!! The damned instructions are printed on the Bowser anyway for all to see!

jas24zzk 2nd Jun 2017 12:48

On the back of my truck is a large sign, "Only driver to operate controls" It would blow your mind how often the customers start fiddling with stuff.

How often do you goto a servo and see people refueling whilst on the phone? The official line is its a flash hazard....a dumbed down explanation to scare the masses. The real reason, is they want you to concentrate on what you are doing.

And what IFEZ says about a course and fee......its coming. I have to demonstrate once a month to my managers that i know how to enter and exit my truck safely...am actually tested. FFS!

It's interesting to observe how wrong "reliable" sources can be, mate of a mate said XXX, knows XXX is happening for sure. This site is no better than Facebook.

The name is Porter 3rd Jun 2017 06:00

You actually thought this place was better than Facebook??

Clare Prop 3rd Jun 2017 06:38

You have to be competent in unit C4.3 of the syllabus for the PPL. It's not complicated.

ACMS 13th Jun 2017 08:23

So, what's happening?

glenb 14th Jun 2017 21:56

A lot of potential

A highly competent, personable, and ethical CEO with very significant resources at his disposal, running that place with an equally competent, personable and Ethical HOO. The opportunity to pick and choose the most professional of the "old team" that you wish to retain. With the massive backlog of China Southern Cadets due to the shutdown of both WA Operations. With a new Chinese 141 Approval issued to the mystery operator right here in Victoria. With CASA on board and supporting the process get a safe operation up and running. A win all around. Great for Industry, Victoria, and most importantly. Instructors!

glenb 14th Jun 2017 21:57

addition to above.

And its got nothing to do with my Business
