Bl00dy Hell!

What airfield is this.

Why is the V tail under water when the Cherokee Isn't. Was it washed into a drain.

Also picture number 3 The red tail of an aircraft on the right.
Is that in a drain too. Thought most the land for aircraft parking would be reasonably flat.
Very different ground levels there.

Very sad indeed, especially considering the cost of GA in Aus.

At Murwillumbah the runway itself is in a slight valley. The hangars are on higher ground on either side. The V-tail would have been parked next to the runway (low) while the Cherokee is parked next to the hangars. I expect that the red tail in picture 3 is next to the runway too.

Edit: here's a photo from happier (drier) times at Murwillumbah:

Both red-tail (underwater in the more recent photos) and blue-tail (on higher ground in more recent photos) are visible. I would hazard a guess that VH-PFN (engine-less, partly hidden by the shed in my photo) is now the wing sticking up from the water in the second photo above.

Geez, when you wished you had bought a STOL aircraft! (Probably as wet as hell on that grass though)

Thanks for the info and photos BPA & Slatye.

Yes, you can see the red tailed aircraft is in the foreground of your photo.

This thread used to have a photo of Bonanza VH-CAD gone submarine at Murwillumbah. Does anyone still have the image?

tail wheel 13th Dec 2017 22:53

Fris ..... Trying to access the URL but no joy there, the response is "URL - signature required."

Try sending a PM to the thread starter?

Many thanks T&G. I didn't recall it being that much submarine.
Do you know the source of the image?

TOUCH-AND-GO 15th Dec 2017 09:59

Negative. I'm just as amazed as you are on how much it was submerged..
