Hi All,


I am currently in the process of getting current again for my flying and need to do an AFR. I've got my medical current and am now looking to do the flying part, my questions are;

a.) Do i need to get a valid ASIC before doing my AFR? Or can i get the ASIC after i have passed my AFR simply to exercise the privileges of my licence?


b.) As I understand from checking the Flight Review form on the CASA website, I do not need to get my non-Part 61 licence converted to a Part 61 licence before i take the AFR, but can apply for a Part 61 Licence on completion of the AFR - is my understanding here correct?


c.) Is there somewhere in Oz (excluding NT or WA) that people can recommend for a high quality, economical, no nonsense BFR, with a good school or aero club that isn't necessarily a pilot training factory?

It's called a FR now (Flight Review).

a) You only need the ASIC to fly into a security controlled aerodrome, if you're flying into one on the FR you can be escorted by an ASIC holder (your instructor, he/she will have one).

b) The instructor is allowed to make one written entry only on your CAR5 licence. That entry will be the successful completion of your FR. He/she should then fill in the form for the FR and for the issue of your Part61 licence. It's no biggie but you have to put on that form all the ratings and endorsements you are claiming, with photocopied evidence from your logbook, i.e. MPPC/Retract Undercarriage etc.

c) I can recommend one in Victoria (but I have a vested interest!)

Whether or not the pilot has an AISC or AVID isn't part of the review.

Crikey, we had better tell all the foreign carriers with foreign crews who don't have an asic or avid.

Who are the numpties that come up with this stuff?

PC/Red tape gone berserk.
Valid Part 61 Pilots Licence, Current Drivers Licence, Current Aviation medical, Aircraft registered to me sitting on tarmac. What other evidence should be necessary to get to my aircraft:ugh: Edited because I also forgot to add my Seniors Card, ABN, TFN, and a truckload of club memberships that haven't kicked me out yet.
An ASIC/AVID is no better a defence against terrorism than any of the above.
I believe even the US doesn't have this ridiculous requirement even after their personal 9/11 attack which brought this whole ASIC thing on. Is this correct?
Doesn't seem to be a problem getting OFF the aerodrome without ASIC/AVID...............
If I don't have the gate code to get back IN, I'll get someone else to 'escort' me airside when I want to depart Never had a problem because everyone except the numbskulls realise that the whole ASIC/AVID is crap.
We need to push back on this BS.

What is a non part 61 license ?

A CAR 5 licence.
