At the risk of promoting thread drift, what did those of us who haven't seen that thread miss?

This'll be good... bring it on, Poo!

What is a WIzz Wheel anyway?
Otherwise known as a "Prayer Wheel".

And will still be used in the future to navigate star ships:

Is this the "Brisbane CTR, ABC departure" thing, instead of just launching into the departure call?

Launch straight into a departure call only to be told to say again because CTR were busy on another frequency and you soon learn the value of it.

Capn Bloggs 26th Aug 2016 09:02

Right, end of spock; into more serious stuff.

Cat, I shocked! I did consider you to be one of the voices of reason on Prune but not any more! How you could overtly countenance deliberate disobeying of AIP?

Besides, if ATC was really worried about being stunned/caught out/overwhelmed by "launch straight into" departure calls, AsA would have made us say "departure", as they have done with "position". My I suggest you not try to worry too much about their job. They are big enough and ugly enough to help themselves. In 99.999% of the case after you say "departure", I hear "FFS!!! Just get on with it, will you!!". :)

PS, Spock would be impressed, some jet captains still use their prayer wheel for working out feeder fix speeds! :D

You are right of course Bloggs, it is something I've changed my thinking on gradually over the years. I didn't mean to suggest that it should be done that way, just saying why some do it that way.

Capn Bloggs 28th Aug 2016 00:17

All is forgiven, Cat. Back to normal programming...

Now that I don't have to listen to all that crap my radio call is:

'ML Centre, ABC taxies Dumbo, request traffic and code'

Works a treat, wish I'd been saying it for years.

Hempy 30th Aug 2016 13:06

To which you'll get the reply; 'No reported IFR traffic, (I'll give you a code if you will enter radar airspace, otherwise stfu)'.

Capn Bloggs 30th Aug 2016 14:18

Windup alert!! Don't bite, don't bite, don't bite!! :}

Nah, you'll get the traffic and code because that's what you asked for. Same as getting an airways clearance. You'll get the clearance cos you asked for it, sweet as a nut!

Car RAMROD 1st Sep 2016 02:13

But you must have had your clearance to FL XXX pending first!

hotnhigh 1st Sep 2016 02:40

As long as all are cleared via the independent visual approach, even though its broken at 400', i.e. Sydney, and you read back "via the IVA" Rex style, everyone is happy.:ugh::ugh::ugh:
