Australis Aviation (Beauty) College

Just saw an ad on AFAP for a ground school instructor at "Australis Aviation College". At the bottom of the Australis Aviation website I noticed the RTO number is also shared by no less than four beauty schools.

Beauty school to flight training? Am I missing something or is all this Fee Help money really that easy to get.

Hasherucf 4th May 2016 10:08

Training hosties ?

Ixixly 4th May 2016 10:43

Might explain why the ad sounds more like they're looking for a School Teacher rather than an Instructor or a CFI.

Australis College Pty Ltd (RTO 31518) is the Registered Training Organisation.

The divisions of Australis College Pty Ltd are Australis Aviation College, Australis Natural Health College, Beauty Skills Academy, Ipswich School of beauty and Lauder Beauty. These are probably Business Names of Australis College Pty Ltd.

That is the way I read it.

Since the "privatisation" of VET training a number of years ago and more recently, the advent of the VET FEE HELP pot of gold, this is what our Australian vocational education system has become.

Why does this conjure images of the fast forward sketch with Magda and the "Australis aviation college and institute de beauty....just look for the big legs with an aeroplane between them"

Or Radar from MASH whose aunt had a School of Deportment and Gas Station.

I am not suggesting for one minute that Australis College is anything other than a reputable Registered Training College.

But to those seeking training through a private RTO - and particularly VET FEE HELP training - be aware that some training providers may not be your best options!

Flightone Archerfield seem to be in bed with them according to their website

Ixixly 5th May 2016 06:13

Seems that way megle2, couldn't see anything on Flight Ones website about them (Didn't look too hard to be honest) but they mention Cirrus on the Australis website which gels with that idea.

From Flightone website In association with Australis Aviation College, we are in a position to support a near-immediate start for those AAA/RQ students enrolled in the CPL/Instrument Rating Diploma. To enquire, please let us know your current position and contact details at [email protected] and we will have one of our enrolment specialists contact you personally.

A little extra research shows Australis is one of only 6 RTOs in the country to pass Departmental audits. Their pedigree is IT, business and finance as well as health and beauty. Directors include serving RAAF officers. Partnered with Flight One and ADFA (both very well established GA schools) they seem to offer a proper tertiary / industry offering with VET-Fee as only one payment option. Early signs are its a better product than the sausage factory option (didn't the last YBAF mass production effort end well??)

Australis should of stuck with doing make up. As of yesterday another school has closed. I feel for the students who have invested time in this school only to be walking away with massive vet fee debts and nothing to show for their hard work and will be unable to do a program at another school. I've heard that the exam fail rate was high. Another provider abusing the vet fee system at the expense of their students.

Wasn't the flight training being provided by Flight One?

I'm told there was nothing wrong with the flight training. In fact the reason most of their students stayed as long as they did was because of flight ones training. Flight One only handled the flying with Australis supposed to be providing the theory and diploma training. Flight one I also believe have an outstanding reputation. I dont think anyone should be looking to flight one as the issue here. We all know that to be a competant pilot you need to have a solid foundation in the theory and I think this is where Australis have failed 20 or so students. From what I hear its Flight one who kept on "stepping in to save the day".

So less than a year later, the audit process is shown to account for 4/5 of SFA.
