So, a bloke without a pilot license with obvious knowledge of how to operate an aeroplane took one (assuming his own?) between Victoria and Adelaide. Is that what I'm reading here ? If so, thats pretty darn keen.

Or, reading between the lines in the subsequent replies, this was a passenger who had a wee steer of a dual controlled machine that another licensed pilot was actually flying (so the risk to safety of the flight was basically zero) and you idiots are spending time and money prosecuting this ?

Asking genuinely...

No, that's not what you are reading here,... minus 10 points for English comprehension

Well sure Eddie, although the snippet is not all that clear, my english comprehension is pretty average. But what I really can't comprehend is if this bloke didn't take an aeroplane and fly him self, why is he facing a couple of years behind bars ?

Its alright Corky, your not the only bloke who is wondering. I can see what he did in the past that is finished, what is not so clear to me is what he has done a second time around to be looking at time in the slammer.

Have I missed something too?

two counts of performing an essential duty without authorisation and one count of knowingly making a false statement in an application
I can read this much, but it begs the question, what was the duty and how false was the statement regarding what?

I am interested in the radar anomalies you quote NW of Sydney. Was a determination made about the cause of the anomalies?
topdrop,
Not being a radar electronics engineering expert, I cannot give an expert explanation, all I know was that is was a characteristic of the setup of the day.
The comment was made (one day in Canberra, in the environs of the Adam Wood building) that it wasn't a "safety" problem, because all aircraft in the area were subject to the same relative error.
It certainly was a problem for any pilot "pinged" for an airspace violation. I often wonder how many radar detected airspace violation were not actual violation.
Or, in one case, in which I had some involvement (Brisbane-Amberley area) a pilot was charged with "almost violating restricted airspace"( my words). The FOI who raised the complaint was of the view the buffer areas in the AIP for flight planning purposes were in fact the boundary to be observed, not the boundary printed on the charts.
As a postscript to the C208 ditching by Green Island, it finally resulted in a number of CASA persons seeking to further their careers elsewhere, but the PIC of the C208 paid a very high price before the whole matter was resolved --- and the "CASA Culture" has not really changed --- the power of the iron ring remains unchallenged.
Tootle pip!!
PS: I see Mr. Skidmore is a trifle miffed with AOPA AU.
