TTMRA changes with CASA part 61
So casa has just changed all its rules around licensing and being a kiwi who has just converted my CPL CMEIR to aus its all pretty confusing! Under CAO 40.2.1 if your IR expired for a year we had to sit the IREX exam, but rumor has it with part 61 now superseding it that's no longer the case.
What I am trying to find out is if I let my CMEIR expire for a year do I still need to sit IREX or not??? The TTMRA form says yes still, but I'm wondering if it is just out of date. |
I was in the same boat and emailed casa and was told it doesn't expire anymore and I will only need a renewal not a examination. Made sure I got it in writing though

What a relief! That exam sounds hard!

KIWI MEIR
Just to confirm if the KIWI MEIR is expired for more than 1 year , can we still renew the MEIR and convert it back to Aus CASA under TTMRA.?
|
Not too sure wether you are saying you have already converted your mecir or not. But my understanding is your caa mecir needs to current in order for a casa one to be issued and then from then on you need to sit renewals in which every country you intend to fly in. You can't do a caa renewal then re apply via the ttmra process to get you casa mecir current. If you want both you need to do two renewals

TTMRA
I do not have the CASA MEIR , was issued only a CASA CPL NVFR on TTMRA, I thought I could renew my NZ MEIR and then convert it back to CASA which i was told by CASA some time back before part 61 .
Would like to know any changes , or else regardless of the CAA NZ renewal we have to sit IREX? |
I hold both the NZ and Aus ATPL with MECIR. My understanding is that any Rating to be transferred under the TTMRA has to be current and in the case of the Instrument Rating can only be done once. At least that is true to go NZ to Aus. Not sure what the East Island rules are if you go the other way.
My employer pays for one renewal and I pay for the other. An added complication is under the new Part 61 if you renew say the Aussie licence in a light twin it is now restricted to SP operations and not Multi-Crew. It is not quite as simple as some people make out. The form filling and verification seems to go on for ever and only a few endorsements seem to cross over. Don't start me on the medicals, they are all as mad as a cut snake on both sides of the Tasman. |
