Possible Aircraft question

Hi all,

So I am not a pilot put have a question for you all;

Can you think of any aircraft in Aus that would roughly be able to fulfill the following criteria:

Able to maintain a speed of about 70 KIAS
While maintaining a descent of approx. 3500 feet per minute
With good visibility for the pilot
Able to climb to around 13k MSL in a reasonable time frame

While something like a porter would be ideal – what else is around that could do something like the above? Any idea’s

Mods – please move to another forum if appropriate

Thanks

70 knots descending at 3500ft/m. With the air brakes out this might do that. It would meet your third point and under the right conditions can do number 4 too.

Jiggs79,
Looking at the criteria you have asked for I am assuming you are after some sort of meat missile launcher?
A lot of operators, if they have the bucks are going for the PAC Cresco.

Old busted ass C182s might get you to FL130 depending on the day and some of the operators I have seen have no qualms about flogging them earthward at VNE-5 kts. :ugh:

sorry if its not a jump aircraft you are after.

From the OP description, is this the type of activity you are seeking to achieve??

A Harrier could do it!

(Sorry....:O)

Going to take a punt here and say he wants to stand on an aircraft whilst flying a garbage bag sized canopy over his head.

josephfeatherweight 20th Jan 2016 10:28

Yep, I'd say it is definitely an aircraft question, not "possibly" an aircraft question!
Aren't we so helpful around 'ere?!? :E

djpil 20th Jan 2016 10:45

A Pitts will do it.
I've had an S-2B up to 14,000 ft in a reasonable time.
Spin down at low airspeed and high rate if descent.

Ding ding ding

And the winner is FoolCoarse pitch

We are looking at aircraft that could be suitable to fly along side a mixed formation of skydivers (wingsuit and canopy). The exit would be made from a skydiving aircraft and then to do some formation flying (and possibly some other fun stuff) with the suitable aircraft

The challenge is of course as meatbombs we are not the most efficient flyers compared to aircraft

Andy_RR 23rd Jan 2016 09:02

what you need is a small, light, fixed-wing "drone" with a follow-me function chasing a meat-bomb-mounted transponder.

a pilot would be nuts to formate on a bunch of ex-passengers.

Anything with a ridiculously 'High' by-pass ratio...............

Stuffs me- good luck:zzz::cool:

I must be nuts then.

One way

or

But if you really want to get the pulse racing

Wizofoz 24th Jan 2016 04:13

erm... we all realize the last one there is faked, right? Opposite dipoles? It was a viral add campaign for the trampoline center.

C-17

Up to 13000 in no time, will decend at 20000fpm or more, but you'll be hopping out the back at closer to 130 knots than 70 :E

FoolCoarsePitch 24th Jan 2016 06:26

A PAC750 and a good pilot should be able to do it. :E

Band a Lot 24th Jan 2016 07:04

AN2 has a "parachute like" decent rate & enough $'s for gas will do 13k in an ok time.

Affirm Wiz, the clip is under the comedy cat on Y'tube. Still get the pulse racing though.

Jiggs79 25th Jan 2016 03:11

In the above clip, that is more a case of getting the plane to descend at normal freefall speeds and entering the plane.
I fly a very small parachute with additional lead weights to increase the max speed, so we are more at a glide ratio of 2:1 or thereabouts. This can be made to be flatter but the challenge is forward speed to match the a/c (and also operating at speed that wingsuiters can fly at)

Thought it would be close, it probably is just out of range of the PAC (and definitely out of range of a Caravan?)

Actually we have a very high degree of control and stability so formation work would be relatively easy if we can fly within the right flight parameters to make it viable. Going through prop wash or the burble of an a/c would not be fun though! hahaha

You got any Porters out in Oz Jiggs?

First port of call if I was given the brief.
