RPL currency

Hey guys & girls,

Just have some questions regarding RPL currency requirements:
I flew for the last couple of years and achieved my RPL with the intention of continuing onto my PPL. Unfortunately, last year a medical condition (kerataconus specifically) put an end to my flying experience. However, recently I got the news that once I get my new contacts I may be able to continue flying after all.

So, assuming I get medical clearance I should be returning next year but i'm not exactly sure of the requirements once I do. Is it just a matter of a couple check flights with an instructor and a BFR? Or will it be an issue of going through the training all over again? Given that my last flight was over 18 months ago.

Cheers guys. :)

Check CASR Part 61 to satisfy yourself of the situation of course, but licences are perpetual once you've been issued them so what you said is right - with a medical you should be able to do a couple of flights (or however many you need) to get current again and then do a flight review to recommence using the privileges of your licence.

I'll just have a quick look myself to confirm, but I think you will also need a current ASIC or AVID, the old security clearance that we all know and love.
