Yak on back at Tyabb
Photos doing the rounds on twitface of what is described as a Yak 9 on its back at Tyabb. Pilot not injured, thankfully. If I'm not mistaken this aircraft featured in photos I saw of the festivities at Narromine.

You gotta feel sorry for Jim. I'm amazed he walked away unhurt. Such a beautiful aircraft, hopefully she flies again one day.

Yes indeed, very sad for Jim and his wife Jenny, also considering they were both returning from their trip away entertaining the crowd at the airshow. He was due to continue on the airshow "circuit" this year in this aircraft which is a real shame. Jim is an absolute master craftsman of the highest order so there's no doubt that assuming it's possible he will have it back up and running as good as new if not better. Good luck Jim and great to see that you were unhurt. Not one to be beaten, Jim was managing the recovery of this fine aircraft this afternoon, ensuring that it wasn't further damaged.

In the early 1990s, Yakovlev started limited production for the warbird market of Yak-9 and Yak-3 replica aircraft using original World War II equipment and Allison V-1710 engines. These modern-built replicas using the Allison engines, have counterclockwise-rotation props, unlike the originals which strictly used clockwise-rotation Soviet V12 powerplants. |

Given the provenance, it would qualify as a genuine factory original reproduction replica?? Wot ya rekon?? Tootle pip!! PS: They are sods of things to keep straight, so glad nobody was hurt, bit of luck it is sheet metal damage mostly, plus a prop and canopy frame. |

If the aircraft is built to the original specifications, would it not be a resumption of production, therefore not a replica?
Are all the new Twin Otters built by Viking replicas of the original built by DHC? |
IMO, if its built by the same people, using the same Jigs and tooling, just 50 years later, then its a genuine aircraft, just a later model of it...

If it wasnt for the Russians cranking out 10 of thousands of Sturmovics, Migs Lags and Yaks (and doing most of the ground fighting) Europe might still be the Third Reich. And the Lag 7 bested the FW 190 :ok: Ok ok ..the wartime production might have been a bit rough, but these post war repros/late models are works of art built with pride and skill, imho What about the Chink 6 ...is it hard to believe it was built in China?? :eek: Sorry to see the pic of Jims busted up :{:{, do hope it can get repaired and back in the air.:ok: |
The ABC TV News last night streamed footage of the Yak on it's back whilst the news reader read the item that "a pilot was killed in this Cessna 172 today."
