I can't stand it any more...what's it doing?
There's a what looks/sounds like a P3 doing lazy orbits over YPPH at high alt as I type. It makes me feel like I'm at the dentist with it's low freq moaning...
What is it doing up there? PS: Not on Flight Radar 24 so must be secret?? |

Just waiting for a slot time into Perth! :E
|
VH-WPE, police PC12 is circling over Perth at 20,000 ft now.
|
Well in Melbourne of late we've had the secret squirrel C208 flying each night, around and around and around, lights off any not showing on any radar systems. Seems to be perhaps 8,000 - 10,000 flying noticeable patterns.

Capn Bloggs,
You're right - it's been doing my head in too! Plane Finder has a B350 (DNG020) currently overhead the PH area at FL250 and it appears to be mirroring what is on Plane Finder. It's not a PC12 based on engine sound although as has been said VH-WPE is currently overhead at FL200. Cheers. VH-MLE |
Directing the pilots where to spray the chemtrails.....shhhhhh
|
Everyone is practicing for when Harry comes to visit. And stop complaining about aircraft at 20k... At least you don't have a Blackhawk idling outside your window...
|
Fyi Flightradar24 only picks up ADS-B tracks, they dont get a Primary or MSSR feed (so technically Flight 'radar' is a misnomer..)
|
Not true Hempy according to the Flightradar 24 website. See comments about FAA data that is utilised.
|
RatsoreA,
Actually, have had them all hours day & night of late (out of Swanbourne) & they are very loud when they go past... |
The only radar data FR24 gets is from the FAA and it's delayed by 5 minutes - it's not real time so is a replay not a feed. Certainly ADS-B only in Australia.

There's been an A330 MRTT doing laps over Port Macquarie at FL240 for the past 48 hours as well.
|
FR24 also displays nonADS-B aircraft using MLAT but it requires quite a few ground stations to determine the position. Currently only on the East coast.

It's the sound of freedom gents...

When are you doing your next APC over here in the west? |
Porter & RatsoreA - very good!!

G'day Bloggs
Me three it was doing for many nights. It was a P3 by the engine noise I can't for the life of me work out the training purpose as the merry go round is almost exactly the same shape every boring time. Love to know what's going on. The report above of the A330 doing likewise is a bit scary. |
Gaunty, send one of lads up for a tail chase and report back! :ok:
|
Folks,
Maybe it's a bunch of blokes or blokesses running up hours for their application to Emirates. Tootle pip!! |
I don't know if the Ozzie P3's still have MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detector for the uninitiated), but if they do, it requires calibration and compensation for aircraft manoeuvre (pitch and roll :yuk:) on cardinal magnetic headings. It can take a while, sometimes ... and can also require extra sick bags:\

Read yesterday that Fox Mulder and Scully are getting back together again. So who knows what is happening up there.
|
It was an RAAF C-130 and King Air doing orbits over the city, not a P-3. Part of the special ops exercises.
