Seair Pacific
I was wondering if anyone has any information to share about Seair Pacific?
I was looking to apply there at some point later on this year. They are looking for 500hrs + MECIR and a (presumably self-funded with them) C208 rating. Fleet is decent and seems to be the possibility for progression there. So, can anyone else share info that I can't get just from their website? |
You'll be a co-pilot on the Caravan initially, if that makes the offer sound anymore enticing.
|
I'm guessing you can't even log that Caravan copilot time? Does anyone know how long you would be right seating them in order to gain command? This looks like a great company.

Seair Pacific
I seem to remember that Seair Pacific operates into Lady Elliot Island, which has a very short strip (with beach and water at both ends, and trees on each side) , and they require many landings under supervision before you get to fly as SP into the island.
Just checked; yep I am right. Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort Great Barrier Reef You will probably have to learn to land again.... |
Why couldn't you log the co-pilot time if your company is certified to operate as two crew?
|
I assume you mean 2000 total time rather than 2000hrs on the 208? Hm. OK it makes it sound a little less like the next step for me given I should be around the 550hr mark within the next 2 months. I'm sure they'd prefer someone who didn't require as many hours before moving to PIC. Couldn't hurt to throw in a resume though but I'd hate to go up there, pay for an endo and then find that I hadn't met their standard solely due to being a relatively low-time pilot trying to jump straight into a turbine. That's my main concern.
|
2000 hours sounds like a big requirement just to fly a single engine turbine...you mentioned that this was to adhere to the mining contract work. Does this mean that they would allow you to fly PIC to the island and back (since presumably that doesn't have the same requirements).

"One of them ended up at Cathay!"
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
They have all casuals I think only 2-3 full time pilots. One of the pilots ended up re fueling at Rockhampton, that another story though.

Seair Pacific
That Lady Elliot circuit is one of the busiest in the country. The occasional Caravan and Islander shares it with hundreds of noddies, boobies, shearwaters, terns, tropicbirds, frigate birds, gannets, gulls and sea eagles.....

Thanks for adding absolutely zero to the discussion bodybag except a smarmy attitude.
|
And by admonishing him ruddegar what did you add?
250below Very true. The farkin noddies were the most stupid birds I have ever encountered, bar galahs. |
Seair Pacific
I love Lady Elliot! Have been there many times in Caravans, Islanders, even an amphibious Nomad. First time, pre-GPS, we flew a bearing from the Bundy NDB, but VIS was so dodgy he asked all pax to keep an eye out to help him spot the island. Not a worry anyway, it appeared directly below in front of us.
This is a great day trip for anyone with the required $750-odd (ex- Bris) in their budget |

You pay for your endo, with no guarantee of a job (basic protection if you are a muppet). You then do co-pilot runs to the mine, which is paid btw, until you have sufficient ICUS hours. You need around 700h total time to do the Island flights, so if you have less its a hard slog to get the time.
Once you get the requirements you do island flights until you can do mining runs, but chances are you'd prob move on to that point. TL:DR good company, get paid for ICUS (ie income), slow progression and you need around 9k lying around if you want to get endo and ASEPTA training. |
get paid for ICUS |
Never paid for ICUS, never paid for a company required endo (except for initial twin), never even paid for an IR renewal. There are still good companies out there.

Sorry if you find me "smarmy", Ruddegar.
All I can add is that I first flew (as payload) with Seair in about 1983, and they're still going. Now that is longevity in GA! |
Does anyone know how long it would take to progress onto twins over there? Do they offer progression past the caravan?
