Tindal Airspace

Gday guys, I will be departing out of Darwin and tracking overhead Tindal next week. Just looking for any advice/tips/tricks for getting through in one piece. Hoping to overfly at A075 or 95
Cheers

You shouldn't have any issues major exercises done for the year.

Put in a plan…..ask for a clearance.

They are pretty friendly up there.

Only been there once, a couple of years ago. Got in the morning before the RAAF was flying and left before they started again a few days later.
Looked amazingly difficult to follow the lanes in and out if they were active as I didn't see the visual checkpoints the chart talks about.
Might not be too much trouble to transit overhead with a plan in the system.
To check that your plan actually IS in the system (VFR) do a SARTIME amendment after you get airborne. You may be surprised.
I've put in VFR plans out of Camden and had them disavow all knowledge when checking in for a clearance through Richmond zone. Going over the mountains wasn't an option thsecond time due weather so they rummaged around on the floor and finally found it. There's a VFR reporting point just to the north outside the Class D at Camden, the controller wanted to know where that was when I checked in. Impressive, professional, friendly - NOT.
In 20 years I can recall two occasions in Australia where the controller was the above.

put in a flight plan, which you will need to depart darwin anyway. check the Atis at ~45nm or ask center for status. if clearance required, 40nm for Delivery 128.1. they're usually pretty good about it

Why ever would you need to put in a flight plan to depart Darwin VFR?

Surely you just call on clearance delivery and say you want to depart VFR to the south at 1500 they give you a clearance like anywhere else in the world.

Or is this a " make jobs " system?

I've got it planned to depart on the 4alpha vfr route, is it possible to get a clearance straight through class c at 6500?

This time of year quite often the Tindal CTR and the associated restricted airspace is deactive. Will sometimes become active for an arriving or departing RAAF jet but then back to Class G once they depart.

Use abbreviation TNX in NAIPS area/location briefing.

Works for me every time I depart or arrive at Class D
