Places to land near Jarvis Bay

Evening all,

I fly out of Maitland, NSW (YMND). Some friends of mine are going down the south coast for a weekend and I was thinking of flying.

Has anyone had any luck recently landing at Nowra? Alternatively, does anyone know of any friendly, C182-compatible strips near Bendalong/Ulladulla?

Any help appreciated.

Jaspers Brush is close to Nowra, but a fair way from Ulladulla. By the look of it Jaspers Brush would be the closest, although still not that close!

Its s bit closer to Bendalong (where I'm staying) than Ulladulla- so not too bad.

Thanks! Better than Woolongong which was my previous best.

Nothing in the Milton area these days?

SAS

I can assure you there are NO airstrips near Bendalong.

Currently sitting in Manyana, I only wish there were.

The closest is Jaspers Brush or Moryua

The nice long airstrip alluded to is Jervis Bay, which is defi itely OFF limits being RAN

There is however a solution for Bendalong. Get a seaplane rating, land at washer woman's beach and taxi up the ramp. There is enough hard stand to accommodate even a beaver, you might even be able to do joy flights

Fly into Moruya and get the seaplane operator down there to give you a lift back up to Lake Conjola? There's plenty of space to land in the Berringer.

Apart from that there's not much down that way unless you can use Nowra. Perhaps give these guys a call/email? Albatross Aero Club

Yeah, it's sad. The current ERSA entry warns of bird hazard as the reason it's closed -- I'm not convinced.

Just ring Nowra - they will give you an approval number and your ok to go.

The number is in ERSA.

Most times they are willing to assist you - well that is how I found them when I go in there.

Just note the frequencies to get in / out of there

Enjoy

All said and done, it would be a far simpler exercise to jump in the car and drive.

By the time you find somewhere close enough to land and then ground transport to your digs etc, you'd be there in the car and unpacking.

Not the same adventure, is this not the reason we fly ?

No Adsie, not when the whole thing becomes a financial nightmare.
Nowra (Albatros) = 55 k's. Moruya = 110 k's. Jasper's Brush over 70 k's.

Maybe $300 one way in a cab after a short flight like that is bordering on the ridiculous.

If he were going interstate then yeah, (costs shared etc),- but to me the frustration would exceed the joy of a short flying leg, such as this.
