Blimp over Riddells Creek

Looks like a lot of circuits and training, but is someone lining up for an advertising blitz?

That’s interesting.
American Blimp A60+ VH-JVW was registered on 17th October to the Van Wagner Airship Company in NSW. Most recently it was in Europe advertising Goodyear. Possibly the same airship as I don’t think there are any others in Oz at the moment.

If memory services we’ve had Alan Bonds Airship Industries blimp advertising various Bond products
and then the American Blimp advertising Whitmans chocolates, Goodyear and briefly Accenture. Any others?

There was the period of the Sydney Olympics in 2000, when advertising was banned, that the Goodyear blimp was changed to “Good Games” and/or “Good luck” to get around the ban.

It will be great to see a blimp floating over us again

There was the Holden blimp for a while too.

Are you sure the rego isn't JRW?

airspace alpha 29th Oct 2014 04:08

Nope. CASA website says JVW. It also says JRW does not exist but I think this used to belong to a Cessna421 at some stage.

Horatio Leafblower 29th Oct 2014 04:30

Yep, it was a C421 until 14/10/14 when that aircraft became VH-EQZ... the rego JRW was passed on to an interested party who wanted his initials.

Safer than a flag under a angry palm tree, John?

vee1-rotate 29th Oct 2014 05:46

Was painted and inflated at the old John Holland hangar (now Melbourne Aviation Precinct) at MEL over the last month or so. Emerged last week with an interesting take off.

How does one get to become a blimp pilot? Can you log it in the multi-engine column of the logbook?

Critical Reynolds No 30th Oct 2014 05:14

There was a Whitmans(sp) as well during the 1990s. I think Steve Jacobs had an issue in one during a live cross for IMT.

Done that. What's the next step?:}

I was doing city orbits today around Melbourne and I flew over that guy. I was super excited. I don't think I've ever seen a blimp. How many blimp pilots are there? BLIMPS!

Gemini Twin 6th Nov 2014 17:22

There are quite a few blimp pilots and a lot more limp pilots but very few limp blimp pilots.

My chickens didn't like it this morning. I thought they were acting funny, not straying too far from the chookhouse, even with freshly mown long grass in the yard. Then I saw the blimp nearby.

They're back to the normal pecking and scratching now it's gone.

cattletruck 7th Nov 2014 09:29

Keep those blimps on check, they have a habit of sneaking up on ya own bit of airspace.
