UNSW and Qantaslink Rumour

Heard a few weeks ago that there may be an announcement coming up regarding UNSW Flying course and Qantaslink. Anyone know any further information?

Stikybeke 28th Aug 2014 21:44

Apparently the course is proposed to run during the next financial year and they're hoping to attract 10 students, each of whom will have to pay $280million to do the course.

Despite the course cost being a tad on the high side applicants will be lining up

...with the promise of a job at the end? At the rate Qantas are going it may be a job-share.

Should be plenty of work ferrying all the sold or retired aircraft out of the country.

I bet you they don't guarantee a job at the end. Just ask the last lot of jetstar and Qantas cadets...

Had some involvement with UNSW and can recommend their flying training. Its not just the stick handling but training in safety and useful management skills.

I heard something along the lines of 'buy us a Q400 sim and you can have the program' type deal.

Don't really know the source well though so take with a grain of salt.

UNSW and Qantaslink Rumour

Obviously going to be very expensive with no guarantee of a job. Why would this program be needed when there are more than likely 30 plus people on hold right now

Dark Knight 30th Aug 2014 00:30

May not make FTA very happy?

Going Nowhere 30th Aug 2014 01:18

No new hires for the near future.
The only upgrades will cover the handful of retirements expected over the next 12-18 months.
Q200/300 crew on very low hours in some bases recently.
PER base still under the constant cloud.
2 x Q300's to be sold in the next 12 months.
No new deliveries.

I wouldn't get too excited just yet. This'll just be Qlink trying to stitch up the cheapest deal they can for when they do need to hire.

Apparently they weren't exactly thrilled with the FTA arrangement. Then again they weren't thrilled with Oxford either!

The above is not intended to be all doom and gloom but that's just the state of play at the moment. :ok:

Aviator95 30th Aug 2014 02:41

Thanks for the replies.
Not getting my hopes up too much with the current state of Qantas and aviation in Australia, would be interesting to know what the state of play is in three years though

megle2 30th Aug 2014 04:30

in 3 years time, easy, same as its always been (except for a small period about 10 years back)
Always a looming shortage but never now and always heaps of pilots looking for work!!

Look out for an announcement later today... 2 UNSW aeroplanes currently parked on DOM1A at SY

Fujiroll76 5th Aug 2015 05:01

Qantaslink have spent the last 3-4weeks interviewing around 40 candidates with 1/4 of those being offered sim. I've heard 4-5 have made it through the sim and placed on hold with the intent for an October ground school. Just some info, feel free to discuss.

Ollie Onion 5th Aug 2015 09:27

Qantaslink are handling all the recruitment and training for the Jetstar NZ operation aswell so they may be interviewing for that?
