The ATPL flight test

Hello all,

Is there a document I can go to for all the information on the ATPL flight test requirements?

How long is it? How many approaches? It sounds very expensive unless I already work for an airline.

Also, do I have to have this MCC thing done to do the test if I already have a type rating on a 2 crew aircraft?

Cheers

2 hours? What are we going to do a x country nav VFR? That time frame is more like an initial jet rating test.

Ansett sim centre will think all their prayers have been answered. They are going to make a fortune from this. The Europeans don't even require a flight test for ATPL issuance.

Actually, the Europeans do require a flight check for ATPL issue, and have done for many years.

It is built into their line check / base check flight testing structure, so most pilots never have to say "ATPL flight test please". The tiny minority who do it as a private venture have to fit into this structure, privately.

NZ is the same. Only the check captains have to worry about it, as the ATPL paperwork is slightly different from a normal proficiency check. But the line pilot doesn't see much difference between a proficiency check and an ATPL issue test.

Why 2 hours? Think of a combination type rating check and IR renewal (with diversion). That's a bit of an over-simplification, but you get the idea!

Hopefully CASA issue an AC soon to tell industry about acceptable means of compliance with Pt 61.

I stand corrected on the flight test. Why not go all the way and require 500 hours multi crew time if we are so obsessed with adopting a more EASA style system?

FP a King Air 200 only weighs 5.7 you will need a 350 to exceed 6.7kgs
Are there any 350's you can hire in Aus

I don't see what the big deal is. If you need an ATPL to fly the aircraft you're flying, then your employer should spot the bill for the sim or, as mentioned, include it on a normal proficiency check. If you don't need an ATPL, then get your theory done (which lasts forever) and worry about the licence when your company needs you to.

Id be surprised if airline recruiters won't be made aware of this in the future, and consequently, we should see 2-crew job requirements drop down to CPL with ATPL Theory.

Exactly. From what i've been hearing from companies here in Oz, the same will apply. A command proficiency line check as it already has been done here, will tick the boxes of the ATPL flight test.

Not really sure why people are making a big deal out of this.

When something that is being implemented in less than 3 weeks still doesn't have any guidelines in print available to the public shows CASA really aren't ready. This makes me think they still don't know either.

Considering the money they have spent and the time they have taken I expect a slightly better performance than this.

kingRB 11th Aug 2014 07:28

Not surprised in the slightest and not holding my breath whatsoever for CASA to get their **** together.

This time last year we were in the same position. Who's got some odds on another delay for implementation being released again?

If you mean p21 of the CASA Standards manual

http://www.casa.gov.au/wcmswr/_asset...-standards.pdf

Then you've got to be joking

morno 11th Aug 2014 10:05

No one seems to have answered the question yet. Why are you all so worried about how to do the test? When you need your ATPL, then 99% of employers will just simply incorporate the test into a cyclic/check and training program.

Schedule 5 lists the standards to be demonstrated in the test
These may be knowledge standards, but they don't look like flying standards to me.

Schedule 8 lists general tolerances that are not licence specific. If the flying test is not to a different standard than CPL, then why do it at all.

This is the same croc that CASA tried to se serve us last year. I can't see they have fixed any of the problems that were identified last year. I think the biggest difference is that the DAS chair is empty.

And, BTW have you read the ATO guidelines released last Friday? Once again it hasn't addressed any of the problem areas. All it has done is push the problem out 2 years. The major thing that will do is give a bunch of ATO's 2 more years work before they retire.

We are heading for a train wreck.

when are you going to take the fly test? in which type of aircraft/sim?

Anyone had their ATPL processed lately?

I'm assuming they would be swamped pre-September.. Anyone have a time frame on how long is CASA taking to issue licenses?

The race is on!

megle2 14th Aug 2014 11:32

Morno, doesn't the RFDS require a ATPL
Will they just accept subject credits in future
They don't have anything to conduct the test in do they
Have the checkers received any guidance

canterbury crusader 14th Aug 2014 11:58

Username here,

Mine was issued the day they received it a early this month. Remember only the 'service request' will show up in your online portal until after the part 61 changes - the licence took about four days to receive in the post.

Make sure you don't pay online if your cutting it fine so your credit card account can prove when they 'processed' it.

Also keep the tracking label.
