The Street View photos are old (taken Sep 2008.) The current Gate 3 Palace now sits just to the right of the gate.

Lookleft 28th Jul 2014 05:23

Maybe the Canberra Aviation people should update their website then. Shouldn't be any harder than updating Facebook (so I'm led to believe).:ok:

bankrunner 28th Jul 2014 06:59

Nothing wrong with their website, just took a look and they've got a photo of the building on their website, and it's in exactly the right spot on their map :ok:

Lookleft 28th Jul 2014 07:50

Thanks bankrunner still looks like an outback donga though. Brian has gone from the relative luxury of the Brindabella offices to this. Saids a lot about how GA is treated in Canberra.

bankrunner 28th Jul 2014 08:18

And rumour has it the few remaining aviation-related buildings left down that end of the field are going away when their leases expire in the next couple of years, presumably to make way for more empty office buildings...

gerry111 28th Jul 2014 10:43

I'll bet that fancy hangar with the G36 Bonanza and chopper ain't going anywhere soon. A bit like the aircraft too...

I wonder who owns them? ;)

gerry111 3rd Aug 2014 08:25

A friend went flying at YSCB today.

Guess what? Not an instructor to be seen at gate 3..

pokeydokey 3rd Aug 2014 23:03

Raveen works some Sundays if he's feeling sorry for students missing flights during the week but he's currently holidaying in sunny India until next week.

Just let me get this straight though - you honestly believe there is no instructing happening in Canberra????

gerry111 4th Aug 2014 07:44

Pokeydokey,

Although there might be flying instructing being carried out at YSCB, there is no evidence at Gate 3 that it is being conducted by "Canberra Aviation" or any other training organisation.

Any others, apart from bankrunner, care to share their views on this?

bankrunner 4th Aug 2014 11:11

All I'll say is that I've been caught out myself on this forum stating there's been no training happening at YSCB since Brindabella got out of the game, only to be told otherwise and later seeing for myself on a later visit to Gate 3 :ok:

pokeydokey 6th Aug 2014 03:49

What kind of evidence are you after?

I've given you the instructors names, the aircraft used, the Canberra Aviation website with all the information including addresses. I've told you that Gate 3 is not their office but simply a focal point where you're most likely to meet them. If you actually visit Gate 3 there are some notices up on the noticeboard from Canberra Aviation about getting a constant speed endorsement on the 172XP. If you head out there this Saturday Raveen is starting back at work full-time so you'll have a chance to meet him and shake his hand. If you head out there today or tomorrow Brian Candler will be working. Of course if the weather is bad there is a good chance they'll be either at home or working in the office.

The Canberra Aviation business name is registered to Goulburn Aviation Pty Ltd as i mentioned:
ABN Lookup - Current details for ABN: 25 105 401 036

There was an article when it first opened in Canberra in Australian Flying: Canberra gets new flying school...at last

Canberra Aero Club links through to Canberra Aviation for flight training:
Canberra Aero-Club - Flight Training

They don't advertise for students because they're busy already and they cannot find any decent instructors to handle any increase in the workload. Besides people that want to learn (like me) generally seek out the local school.

What exactly would you like?

Lookleft 6th Aug 2014 05:57

I didn't realise the Aero club were operating a historic flight-RRJ and FIM. ATC very nearly grounded RRJ because every time it went into the air it had a radio failure of some description! Also had a memorable flight to Mascot with the late Cmdr Eric Twells in FIM.

gerry111 6th Aug 2014 12:32

Pokeydokey asked:

"What exactly would you like?"

An easy question.. I'd like more people learning to fly!

But the whole YSCB Gate 3 thing remains a mystery. You claim to have two 'Canberra Aviation' instructors there, from time to time.

So say that I have a friend in Canberra who wants to learn to fly? Should I tell her to just turn up at Gate 3 anytime during the week?

She won't get into Gate 3 without an ASIC and the mobile number of the Canberra Airport employed guy who comes along to open the door!

(Remember.. If you are within Gate 3, you cannot open the entry door.)

So what should I be telling her? Perhaps an instructor's mobile number would be a start...

bankrunner 6th Aug 2014 21:32

Phone numbers and email addresses listed on their website would probably be an awesome place to start :E

pokeydokey 6th Aug 2014 22:57

Thanks bankrunner - it would be a good place to start indeed.

Teraya Miller is the CFI - 0418 165 813 or [email protected]
Tim Allen helps with handling bookings and initital inquiries - 0421 285 423 or [email protected]
Raveen Krishan full-time instructor - 0429 150 398 or [email protected]

The aircraft are the office and as they seem to be constantly moving if you give any of the numbers above a call i'm sure they can answer any queries or arrange an appropriate time and place to meet.

If there were any decent instructors out there then i'd say there's work available if they want it. That seems to be the only limitation in Canberra to getting people into the air.

Whatever happened to Joe from the Menswear store family? Its been a while but he was trying to reestablish an aviation career.
