Griffith Cathay Advanced Pilot Cadetship - The Phantom Program
 

Noticed this advert quite some time ago.

Griffith News | Aviation soars with Cathay Pacific

Griffith proudly claiming to have some kind of formal alliance with Cathay pacific , how their students had some kind of preferential or exclusive "access" to this program.

Great if they did but the questions I have are these

1. Aren't they just talking about the cathay advanced cadetship at FTA ,that anyone with an ICAO CPL and 250 hours could apply to ?

The Aviation Head says they are so "honoured" to be part of this prog - anyone with a CPL could apply, what advantage did any Griffith Stud have over anybody
else ?

Or did Griffith actually have some separate deal with Cathay - they seem very short on detail if that is the case

2. Noticed this advert was put up August 2012 , & the last graduating class from the FTA Cathay Advanced program was in April 2013 - 32 week program. My understanding is that Cathay have not commenced anymore advanced cadetships since the third quarter of 2012, more or less similar time to when Griffith announced this "breakthrough" program. So why does Griffith continue to plug a program that has been closed for nearly two years (to new entrants) ? Really I guess for the same reason they were heavily promoting how they had been selected to run the Qantas cadetship, for years after the program had been placed on hold.

Trying to find a back up plan now Jetstar have placed recruitment on hold?

How fortunate I am to not have to care.

My friends son went Griffith/Cathay route and now enjoys carrying the Captain's bag on a B777 ex-HKG...:ok:

He loved the program and the result..

......at what cost?

It appears that these courses guarantee nothing, but charge a premium for previous student's success.

No different to Harvard I guess, except their alumni are earning way more money than Griffiths.

Griffith pilot cadetship? Griffith has no instructors, no aeroplanes and no AOC.

Their reputation? All smoke and mirrors, me thinks.

Wow TBM great someone is posting a gushing "good news" story.

It would be even more wonderful if it had it any basis in reality - regretfully it doesn't

Unfortunately the numbers don't add up. The last CAEX (Cathay Advanced) course graduated end of April 2103, think it was CAEX 15 , so being a 32 week course , would have commenced 3rd quarter 2012 - prior to the announcement of this "Breakthrough" program.

CAEX 15 (think no is correct) is the last Cathay have put through , the advanced program has ceased, and there a no plans to reactivate the program by Cathay.

So since the announcement of this breakthrough program, not one single intake for Cathay Advanced has occurred at FTA, over this past nearly two year period.

It really could be just a little misleading to prospective students you might think

CX AE21 was the last through; graduated in May.

You got my attention talking about a phantom cadet program, Flyboat North.

So I thought I'd try and concoct a completely fictional example of a phantom program or scam in my own head to compare to this Griffith one.

Scenario;
Let's say a failed, bitter regional airline pilot starts up a scam cadet program, guaranteeing post cadetship employment with a company which doesn't even have an RPT AOC, pushing it heavily on pprune while simultaneously bashing other cadet programs (which are significantly cheaper). Also publicly denounces the possibility of any real direct entry employment in Australian Aviation future.

I'd be interested in your opinion, Flyboat North, on how this scenario from my imagination compares to the Griffith "phantom program".

I guess at least they are associating themselves with an airline which actually exists??

But that is not what this thread is about , it is about a Uni alleges a relationship with an airline, talking about a cadetship being open to Griffith students that in fact closed nearly two years ago.

It all seems really hazy , very confusing

Were they alleging they had a "special" relationship with Cathay as the advanced program was open to every Joe in the world with a CPL and 250 hours ?

Can see any CX AE graduating in May 2013 , only goes back to May the 5th. I did notice a CXAE course graduating from FTA in April 2013 , meaning they commenced some 32 weeks prior.

This may be the coolest guy on the internet.

Sorry, I was incorrect. CXAE21 actually graduated on the 3rd June, 2013.
