No more AVGAS at Quilpie

I spoke to the AVGAS (mobile tanker) supplier at YQLP today. He informs me that the local council have elected to cease AVGAS supply at Quilpie airport once the fuel in the truck runs out...

closest AVGAS will probably be at Charleville.

Jack Ranga 17th Mar 2014 03:15

Look at the bright side, no more call out fees :ok:

Some people are just perennially glass half empty :ugh:

Adsie 17th Mar 2014 08:25

Ranga

Not a bad piss take - but there will be a few people who will be disadvantaged by this.

Maybe you should buy the truck dircm - see a need, fill the need.

Sad to see things like this happen

Jack Ranga 17th Mar 2014 11:57

Adsie, indicative of the industry in general

gerry111 17th Mar 2014 13:44

Yes, it's always sad to hear of another AD without AVGAS availability. I suppose that it was a commercial decision, after all. But how many of us in GA are indeed our own worst enemies? We tend to bleat and whinge at the cost of landing charges and AVGAS at remote places. But without those facilities, we'd be very limited in where we can fly to, particularly inland. So what I'm saying is this: If AVGAS is charged out at say AUD$3 per litre at William Creek or perhaps Forrest, please pay up gladly. And consider the "Opportunity Cost".

dircm 17th Mar 2014 20:27

Buy the truck? Interesting idea....

As far a cost goes (callouts etc) I'm happy to pay especially if it is a truck. Pumping 300 litres into each wing on a 40 degree day while juggling pax is not fun. Now on my next flight I have to backtrack to Charleville for fuel and burn 79 litres more over what I needed for the whole trip.

Hailstop3 17th Mar 2014 21:58

Windorah still has Avgas too, so you have an option east and north west of Quilpie.

megle2 17th Mar 2014 22:19

Never used to be Avgas at Quilpie

There is bowser Avgas at YWDH, YTGM YCMU and YBCV.
I believe the local QLP fuel distributor has drum stock available.

Bulk Avgas at YQLP was a fairly recent phenomenon.

hurlingham 18th Mar 2014 06:53

Fantastic service at Charleville - why not pop in for a top-up
If range is an issue then the girls at Windorah also provide a great service
Safe flying

I am with you there Gerry, it never ceases to amaze me how some people who have huge incomes want to pay FA to someone who does not.

What ‘flavour’ fuel is it? I’m guessing not BP and probably Shell?

Whatever the case, a genuine thank you to whichever company installed the infrastructure.

I would like a penny for every Litre of 100LL I loaded at Quilpie. My super would be a lot healther.

Finding an Air BP bowser that now accepts the usual credit cards for low quantity users of AVGAS? I reckon that it's easier to find Lasseter's Reef!

I’ve been caught at Broken Hill a couple of times since my SAAA BP card was cancelled. Hit with a $20 fee to use the truck’s CC plus an extra 20 cpl. Finally got a carnet that works for BP but plan to avoid wherever I can.

The attached advert was in the May - June issue of Australian Flying magazine.

In case you can't see the pic:
AVGAS 100LL @ $2.25 per litre
JET A-1 @$1.70 per litre
24/7 Credit Card Machine available (Visa or Mastercard)
Seems to originate from Quilpie Shire
