Skytrans

Anyone successful in the recent rounds of interviews with Skytrans?

Cactusjack 29th Jan 2014 11:05

Redundancy interviews? I believe quite a few have been successful with those of late!

Hailstop3 29th Jan 2014 11:29

Can't help yourself eh Cactus. Put a sock in it for once mate, your disdain of Skytrans is growing tiring on all accounts.

From a source, O/P, looks like 6 successful candidates, not sure if they have been contacted.

Cactusjack 29th Jan 2014 11:35

No disdain, just stated a fact that they are still making people redundant across all sections of the company, as recently as Monday this week. Nothing untoward in that piece of information. Harden up mate.

Two_dogs 29th Jan 2014 13:23

Cactus, no disdain? You're kiddin right?

http://www.pprune.org/pacific-genera...rans-info.html - 41 posts in total, 13 disdainful from you, in one thread. That's 31.7 %

440, the lack of positive responses may be all the answers you need son.
Then again with all the changes they have been through of late making pilots redundant plus punting the HR department it would seem the new HR manager (term used loosely) may have made another company cock-up Oh well, just add it to their list in recent times.

Doesn't give you a lot of confidence in the company itself, it's management or its strategy if they create redundancies on mass, which they did, and then supposedly offer to take some of those people back almost as quickly as they cut them loose?

They had their CAsA audit last week. 27 findings, mostly in Flight Ops and Engineering. A lot of white CAsA faces. It was even discussed that the CP has tried to resign twice in recent months but they keep talking him in to staying. Is all well? Are they next on the CAsA hit list?

Chocks away, it depends which CP you are referring to, they have had 4 in 4 years. Ops tell me this - as for HR, how ironic as it was normally them doing a number on everyone, and now they had a number pulled on them Then again, the new HR boss has been nicknamed Medusa!

They have made people redundant and created havoc in the workforce, yet after getting rid of pilots they now have an advert on Seek for F/O's?
Also on Seek is an advert for a trainer and an advert for an ops person, again to cover the resignation of a couple more key people. The past 18 months has been tumultuous and isn't getting better.

If you believe that then you are either very young and naive or you are the company spokesman. Maybe you believe in the tooth fairy also? Perhaps things have more to do with poor management decisions, after all they have punted all the old managers in the past 12 months. Now why would you do that if you were already an efficient well oiled smart business managed by competent people that were simply consolidating?

What, are businesses run different in FNQ to the rest of the world? So the big bad financiers are at fault? No no definitely not the company or its managers, it's everybody else's fault, of course? It couldn't have been management fantasising about a mining boom that they 'guessed' may last for decades more and they hedged all their bets on that? Maybe it is also the fault of the bogey man as well!

The C&T has resigned also, finishes up in a weeks time. This is the loss of yet another good pilot and it will be felt. He was an awesome guy and well respected. I just hope they can hang on to the current CP who is also a good asset. Oh wait I forgot, it's all party of the airlines master strategy and consolidation in the current aviation climate. The C&T resigning leaves a bloody big hole in the mature and highly respected management structure don't you think?
Logic would tell you that with 4 CP's in just a couple of years there are some underlying issues. 2 of the 4 were also good CP's and went on to greener pastures, 1 good CP remains and as for the other one, well he went to a neighbouring country where the laws of the land better suit his flying style.

Another head rolls! GM Commercial this time. I guess it's all part of managements strategic plan and 'consolidation'? Farewell drinks in the basement. Classy!

Hi Ho Ho another one takes a parachute! The regulatory services officer has resigned this time, finishes up early January. Another dent in the tin Wonder how many Bentleys you can fit in a Xmas stocking? Just wondering.

Actually it's "safety systems officer", me bad. But the role looks after regulatory matters (including the current 27 NCN's and a further handful of observations He is a nice young fella, smart enough to see the writing on the wall, and off to WA to get some real HICAP airline experience

Chocks away - Great post and you nailed it in one.
There has been numerous posts exposing this FNQ outfit for what and who they really are, and you nailed it. This video was coincidentally made by the CBA just prior to its marketing manager leaving and taking up the role of CEO Skytrans! Never mind, she has had a huge eye opening experience working for an airline, might explain why she is meant to be leaving next month??
And yes, many who work at Skytrans almost vomited in their breakfast when they saw it! I guess fantasy doesn't reflect reality to some. Maybe the video could be updated to reflect all the APNG accidents and deaths over the years it has been under Wild entrepreneurial oversight, not to mention all the CASA findings against Skytrans over the past few years as well as all the internal resignations Yep, great 'entrepenure' and same MD for both airlines. He would be better off investing daddy's money in remote controlled planes.

Whatever... Soon gonna have to do a mixture on you, and add you to my ignore list.

Private joke to Saab Dastard. He knows what I mean. :}

SKYTRANS

Interesting lines in Northern Daily Leader particularly the recent transaction to make company debt free.

"Sky's the limit: Queensland airline firms as favourite for Tamworth-Brisbane flights
By Ross Tyson
Jan. 29, 2014, 4 a.m.

A QUEENSLAND-based carrier has emerged as the clear favourite to take over the Tamworth to Brisbane route following the collapse of Brindabella Airlines.
Skytrans, operated by a family-owned company with more than 25 years’ experience in the aviation industry, has started discussions with Tamworth Regional Council.

Managing director Simon Wild yesterday told The Leader the company had recently upgraded its fleet and was keen to expand its NSW services.
He said he would be travelling to Tamworth soon to meet with the council in person and discuss what each party wanted out of an arrangement.
“We are interested in doing it, but obviously we need to speak with all the stakeholders first,” he said.
“From experience, the council is obviously concerned that they have a sustainable operator, so really I need to meet with the council.”
Skytrans operates both 36-seat and 50-seat Dash 8 aircraft, similar to those used by QantasLink.
It is based out of Cairns and services some of Australia’s most remote locations, as well as running a Toowoomba to Sydney service.
Mr Wild said the airline had no dreams of taking on Qantas or Virgin, but simply wanted to continue as a “niche” operator serving regional areas.
“We are looking to grow our business and certainly south-east Queensland down into NSW are areas that we will be looking at,” he said.
“We’ve just recently done a transaction that virtually clears our balance sheet, so we have no debt.”
Tamworth mayor Col Murray said Skytrans had a “pretty solid reputation” and the council was very interested in what it had to offer.
“Our due diligence suggests that Skytrans would be a very appropriate carrier, with the types of aircraft they’ve got and the history of the company and the quality of service it has offered previously. That sort of ticks most of the boxes for us and we’re very encouraged to have an ongoing discussion with them,” he said."

"Recently upgraded its fleet" What have they done to upgrade

tourismman 31st Jan 2014 05:57

I believe they have got 2 Q400'S coming very soon???

falconx 31st Jan 2014 06:52

From redundancy to 2 x Q400's?

hiwaytohell 31st Jan 2014 21:59

"So we have no debt".

“We’ve just recently done a transaction that virtually clears our balance sheet, so we have no debt.”
Hmmm an airline with no debt? That really is quite an innovation!

Howard Hughes 1st Feb 2014 01:15

Pretty sure I saw a Skytrans Dash-8 out of Sydney yesterday, only a passing glimpse, but it may have even been a 400! ;)

BPA 1st Feb 2014 02:12

HH,

Most likely it was the -300 you saw doing the SYD-TWB run.

Howard Hughes 1st Feb 2014 02:18

More than likely, like I said only a quick glimpse! :}

Fieldmouse 1st Feb 2014 04:53

I have it on good authority

That the only sticking point on the YBBN - YSTW route is terminal access. Pax need to be fed through one of the major's
terminals. They tie that up, they're in. Also Armidale putting out feelers to be included in a 'love triangle'.

Pith Helmet 1st Feb 2014 05:07

And I have it on better authority without the mumbo jumbo

Hmmm an airline with no debt? That really is quite an innovation!
No they are NOT debt free. In fact they have been struggling to pay debts for 18 months, big debts!

Things are going from bad to worse. They have just sold 6 aircraft and are leasing them back (this doesn’t get reflected on CASA’s VH register as the aircraft still remain with the airline but are now registered overseas). Supposedly the approximately $16 million that the Bentley boy has pocketed is going back into topping up the family trust account and will be is being used to pay outstanding massive bills that they simply can’t pay. This is not a capital injection, it is more like asset stripping. Wonder why? And the books don’t lie, the money isn’t going into fixing, expanding or improving the airline. The other 6 aircraft are on lease. Buildings are leased, as well as offices and hangars. There is NO equity in this company.

They wont get 400’s on the AOC, they cant even manage the 100 and 300’s.Charter is being wound down to nothing, and a supposed focus on RPT is what is being ‘touted’, however as has been stated, with the 27 NCN’s in the recent audit and an appalling record CASA are concerned about adding Tamworth and Coffs Harbor to their AOC. Maybe CASA are finally waking up? Both commercial managers have been ‘let go’, and rumour is because of their continuous record of breaking regulations. No tears have been shed. And try asking the passengers what they think of the woeful OTP and broken planes. It isn’t pretty.

HR is single handedly murdering pilot morale with their incompetent, nonchalant and cavalier attitude towards rostering, training, people management and safety. They should hang their heads in shame.
More disasters from team mumbo jumbo. This place is a car wreck spiralling into oblivion.

The safety department now consists of one safety individual who makes the term ‘safety’ a complete mockery. No procedures operationally are being adhered to, and no oversight, at all is being given to outports. The reason being is that, as usual, CASA didn’t take a look out there, so the company isn’t addressing the issues because CASA don’t seem to care.

The highly publicised Toowoomba/Roma route has already been scaled back and is losing mega $$. Yet another poor mumbo jumbo SMT decision to turn into complete poo.

They have also been ‘caught out’ by Rio Tinto hiding a $1 million overpayment, and had to pay it back, which has damaged them immensely. Another brilliant mumbo jumbo SMT action that has damaged the place. Professionals? Hardly.

And you really really don’t want to start looking at their complete lack of oversight of the 4 aircraft in the West, not to mention the non existent safety, operational standards, training and regulatory compliance that simply doesn’t exist, CASA’s hair would turn grey! Maroomba are another two bit outfit who have next to nil safety oversight, no ground handling training, and don’t investigate incidents, heck they don’t even have a load control system! And the former big angry man who mismanaged Skytrans engineering department and got punted is now doing the same at Maroomba. But CASA don’t care as usual.

Oh well, staff must be so thrilled how the entire family and assorted grovellers can still afford a 6 week Italy, New York, world holiday yet creditors go unpaid and morale is decimated, not to mention the aircraft sell off from which the proceeds are going into thin air. Perhaps it was all booked by Mrs wotif.com? And I bet there was no ‘hot bedding’ in half star accommodation. But I guess that is what you get from school teachers and ‘aviation enthusiasts’ running a supposed airline business.
This company is a disgrace and has been for a long time. Both it and APNG should not be allowed to thumb their noses at all and sundry any longer. No wonder the bank CEO currently at the helm is pulling the pin this month. The band has been singing for ages onboard the Skytanic!!

There really are some very disjointed people in this industry.

Give it up. Whinging like that on pprune does nothing. Unlikely it's any of your business either.

All that rubbish has been sprouted for years, yet they're still here....

They have just sold 6 aircraft and are leasing them back
Incorrect - you will find one of the aircraft operating in Canada. Just get your facts straight before posting!

Cravenmorehead 1st Feb 2014 18:48

Don't you just love Skytrans threads; can someone please answer the original question from jezYBBN. I have a friend who would also like to know. Perhaps you could ring up and ask the HR department, just a thought, if you were interviewed you would not be out of order in doing that. Generally it is interview protocol at the end of interview to give a time frame for advice on the interview outcome. If that period has elapsed you are within your rights to ask.
In regards other airline bitching and it being a solely Skytrans phenomena- you have to be kidding.
It is not unusual for companies to sell and lease back assets, Virgin did it with the hangar at Brisbane recently to raise cash to fight Qantas with.
To have leased back means you must have owned the asset in the first place a good thing but not the best way to run a business. Some of The Dash 8's were bought from Qantas many years ago for a good price, and sold at a better price to the leasing companies, I think?

If no one can answer that question I am happy to close the thread! :=
