Costco opening at Moorabbin Airport

Costco are opening a massive store at Moorabbin Airport this year.

It appears the new warehouse will be built on the north east corner of the airport, so I can't see it conflicting with runway operations.

Moorabbin Airport Corp must be rolling in cash, just wish they would would reduce airport access fees and lease costs so the place isn't so expensive.

Oh good! I can shop after flying.

VH-XXX 7th Jan 2014 01:55

Looks like it's goodbye golf course...

The proposed Costco warehouse will be built wholly within the airport site on surplus aviation land (5.8 hectares).

Good to see the interest in a further development. May i suggest that those interested aviators not already members join the Moorabbin Airport Chamber of Commerce inc. next meeting at RVAC 17.30 on 22nd and find out about the aviation benefits to YMMB users.

Why is this project being proposed?

Airports are infrastructure intensive businesses operating in a highly regulated operational environment and require a mix of investment grade tenants to deliver Master Planned outcomes.

The proposed Costco warehouse represents an investment of $35 million into the local economy and will benefit aviation users, airport tenants, the local community (business and residents) in the wider south-east region. Importantly it provides the long term value required to maintain airport infrastructure and to further promote economic and employment growth for the Kingston and the South East region.

The development is in accordance with and implements the Approved Master Plan (2010) for Moorabbin Airport as well as State and local planning policies and controls.
We are all keen to learn about the

will benefit aviation users, airport tenants
if its anything like the developments up to date MAC must coming up with a new formula.

This meeting will also be addressed by the mayor of Kingston Council

He's correct, the Golf course went ages ago but the land only recently was cleared of trees etc.

"This will be a flapless departure runway 35L. If the engine fails below 60 knots, I'll cut the power and call stopping. If it fails above 60 knots and below 500ft, I'll cut the power, call stopping, and land on the costco ahead, in the pillow isle number 93."

evilducky 7th Jan 2014 10:40

I'm assuming if they're building it adjoining the business park it will only use the land that faces onto Boundary Rd? Any word of plans to use the land on the southern and south eastern boundaries of the airport? Might lead to further displaced thresholds on 31L and 35R?

Careful, some FOB might hear this and take you seriously.

I recall hearing that the golf course on the northern side of Centre Dandenong Rd is marked for residential development.

Doesn't leave a lot of open areas if you lose an engine in takeoff `to the north.

Let's have them put one in at Archerfield too.
The tower boys can man the checkouts. We need to find something for them to do

To be honest, I am more concerned about the closing of the golf courses nowadays!..... Talk about the thin end of the wedge.

Typhoon650 7th Jan 2014 22:29

I just wish they'd put parking aprons next to the Costcos for GA aircraft.
Would make a good enough excuse to fly for a slice of pizza or a hotdog.
