Rescue helicopters contract up for Tender

ABC News

The bit I find interesting in this story is the quote at the end:

Mr Jones says he fully supports the move to twin-engine choppers.

"We saw only last week in Melbourne a small single-engine helicopter crashed on a footy ground," he said.

"You know, if that was to happen in metropolitan Sydney with an injured person on board - the likelihood of that happening is minimal - but if it was to happen, the consequences are catastrophic.

"So it's all about moving toward European legislation and regulation as we need to have the safest possible helicopters."
Now I know nothing about helicopters but from what I have been told, a twin-engine helicopter in the same situation in MEL would have just made a more expensive wreck?

Whatever happened in Melbourne, it seems that it was not an engine failure.
So yes, most likely the same (although more costly) outcome.

Makes sense, two's always better than one, pity they only have 1 gearbox...
