Ground resonance perhaps???
Great that the pilot is OK.

A better bunch of pictures and more informed guesswork here: Melbourne Olympic Park bingle.

It's not a Bell 208, it is/was a Bell 206 LongRanger.

It's not AAMI Park, it's Olympic Park Oval.

It was (most likely) dynamic rollover, you don't get ground resonance after you lift off.

It isn't Melbourne Helicopters, the machine was one of Zipper's from The Helicopter Group (I believe).

Reminds me of this video of an accident in Auckland a few years ago.

Just seen a photo of Emma on 7, hope she's okay

Always found this Vid interesting if you watch closely there's a guy who at the last minute pulls on the suspended cable (just as the guy in the foreground passes with a camera & stand blocking instantly his actions) which brings that cable into contact with the big propeller atop the flying machine:-)

From the Adelaide Advertiser:

He said it appeared that one of the helicopter's skids became caught on the landing mat as it tried to take off, causing it to lose balance and ultimately come crashing down.

Just the reason we didn't have them in the off shore world. OK for wheel helos, definitely not if fitted with skids. It's a lesson we learnt the hard way, though the pilot and machine managed to escape unscathed in this instance.

I was looking at those mats the other day when I rode past the park thinking that they would need to be very tight otherwise they could cause issues for them. I'm thinking they are more there to protect the grass from skids and passengers versus a slippery surface for skids.
