iPhone, iPad Users - Do not uprgade to iOS7!

I saw the user interface for iOS7 on a friends iPhone and it is crap - all eye candy that is actually slower to use than the previous system and harder to read. It is also more computing power intensive so it needs an iPhone 5 to run fast. This is not a pilot friendly operating system.

Basically Apple have decided to animate every function and icon on the phone to make it "cool". However coolness is a relevant to a tool like a phone as it is to a wood saw.

If Apple continues down the "coolness" road then they will become irrelevant very fast.

Message to Shagpile: I hope there is an Android version of Ozrunways coming, because Apple is going down the same "coolness" road that destroyed the Motorola flip phone as a professionals tool.

Jeez Henny Penny, relax.

My experience has been the total opposite to yours (ipad 2, iphone 4)

That explains why it is chewing through the battery way faster than the old version - and taking far longer to recharge.

I think that's pretty unfair criticism Sunfish. Mine's working fine on the iPhone 5. No discernable change in battery life.

I haven't upgraded the iPad yet until I know jepp will run ok.

Mine are also fine, storm in a teacup Sunny. I've got 2x IPad minis, second gen iPad, iPhone 4S and the mrs has a 5... All good and everyone else I know. The only reason not to upgrade right now would be because of a couple of small OZRunways issues.

I0S7

I changed my I-5 on Saturday and suddenly my battery was flat after about 3 hours. I found that the Bluetooth was on, brightness was at full bright and the torch light was full on and stayed on. So sort them out and check other settings, as some of them altered in the upgrade. Also to switch off all the active apps, the process is completely different, you need them off regularly to increase battery life also. Know how to do that ?

No probs here too. iPad mini. Battery was worse day one until I realised it turned all location services and Bluetooth. Turned them off and no difference. Icons look cartoony if that is a word bother wise, no need for a tin foil hat.

Ultralights 22nd Sep 2013 21:59

flew yesterday with Ipad running IO7, both Ozrunways and Avplan worked fine. took a little tweaking to get the ipad to connect to the garmin GLO duel gps receiver though.

Bevan666 22nd Sep 2013 22:07

I've been flying a bit with iOS 7 and haven't had an issue. Havent noticed a difference with battery life (on my iPhone 5 I thought it was actually better than it was before!)

Don't quite know what all the fuss is about?

Bevan..

iPhone, iPad Users - Do not uprgade to iOS7!

Double click on Power Button (like before) and flick every open app upwards

iOS 7 is working fine on my iPhone 5.

It's quite a bit different, but better once you figure out how the changes work.

It has better multi-threading and appears faster to me.

iOS7=georeference in JeppFD=:)

(iPad 4 here)

Closing Apps

Thanks for that.So easy and best way to extend battery life.

morno 22nd Sep 2013 23:51

Not sure what you're on about Sunny. iOS7 appears to work fine on both my iPhone 4 and iPad Mini.

The 5S should be delivered by courier tomorrow I hope, :ok:.

I've never seen any evidence that closing apps increases battery life. Background processing in iOS is very limited.

Jepp OK

I haven't upgraded the iPad yet until I know jepp will run ok.

I have two iPhones and 2 iPads. I did the upgrade on one iPhone first.....checked everything. Then I did the other phone and the iPads.

If batteries are running down quicker, check that the Bluetooth is off. Other wise, I find everything running faster and Jepp works just fine. The clock function, the control panel and the photo changes are all improvements.

Ja....there are a couple things that were....."now how does that work?" moments, but in general, after playing for only a couple hours, it is a good interface.

Moving with 4 finger swipes between open apps is really good! No more home button, look for the ikon and open, I can just switch between Numbers and a mail message with the data I need.....great time saver.

have fun!

There is a neat App called "Battery Doctor," which will give you a listing of which Apps are running, the remaining battery life and what closing an App will contribute to extending battery life. Right now, it seems that iOS 7 has increased my battery life!

nitpicker330 23rd Sep 2013 07:13

Got the 5s and it's really a big improvement. No issues at all here.

Updated the iPad2 and apart from a couple of issues with Goodreader and Ozrunways it too is ok.

Con_G 23rd Sep 2013 07:37

Same experience here. Ipad mini running ozrunways worked fine for a 3 hour flight yesterday plus flight planning the night before. Can't comment on battery life because the mini is only used for aviation stuff and sits on charge the rest of the time.

Buttscratcher 23rd Sep 2013 22:49

Is there a way to hide the left toolbar in Jepps' airport charts like before?
